Former WWE Wrestler James Harris, who performed under the name “Kamala,” died at the age of 70. WWE released a statement on Sunday tweeting: “WWE is saddened to learn that James Harris, known to WWE fans as Kamala, has passed away at age 70.”

James ‘Kamala’ Harris, born on May 28, 1950, was a professional wrestler nicknamed “The Ugandan Giant.” Kamala was famous for wrestling barefoot and approaching the ring, wearing an African mask and carrying a spear and shield. He was best known in the WWE for wrestling legends like Hulk Hogan and the Undertaker in the 1980s and early 90s. Kamala debuted in the WWE in July 1984.

When Harris spoke in an interview in 2012, he wanted his fans to see him in only one way despite his struggles with adjusting to life without his leg. “Don’t think of me as, ‘Oh, please help me, help me.’ I don’t want them to think of me like that; I want them to think of me as uplifting.” Harris, in 2012.
