As fans were gearing up to digest the next to episode of ESPN’s Docu-series The Last Dance, last night photos of the sneakers the league banned Michael from wear have surfaced.
Thanks to GoodwinSports sharing images of the original Nike Air Ship sporting a Michael Jordan’s signature on the collar. These are one of only two pairs that were given to Michael Jordan during his rookie season in 1984.
The Nike Air Ship “Banned” came dressed in black leather base with Red overlays on the eyelets, Swooshes, and heels along with matching colored Nike tongues and rubber outsole.
We all know the story how during the Chicago Bulls rookie training camp in 1984 the NBA sent a memo to the team prohibiting the sneaker from being worn in a game. However what gets confused in the story are the actual shoe the memo referred too. The iconic Jordan 1 silhouette in the Black/Red color way debuted in 1985.
Grab a detailed look below at an actual signed pair from GoodwinSports as these were one of the first two pairs of Jordan sneakers that Nike gave MJ back in 1984.
