Fans rejoice as the long awaited return of the Freeman family, yes “The Boondocks” are officially back with 24 new episodes as well as it orginal 55 episode. Being rumored to return for a 5th season those rumors are finally a reality. They will be hit the viral selfs of HBO Max,one of many new streaming services in 2020.

The creator of the original comic strips, Aaron McGruder, is on board once again to develop the series as the showrunner and executive producer. Which is a pleasant surprise after the lackluster performance from the latter seasons following his absence to work on other series such as Adults Swim’s “Black Jesus.”

“There’s a unique opportunity to revisit the world of ‘The Boondocks’ and do it over again for today. It’s crazy how different the times we live in are now – both politically and culturally – more than a decade past the original series and two decades past the original newspaper comic. There’s a lot to say and it should be fun.”

The satire and real-ness the show will bring to the current situation of today’s America is a welcome experience, there are very few shows that can that can take a what-if scenario like Martin Luther King Jr. still being alive and give African Americans introspective on how we fallen short of the dream he had for us when fighting for our Civil Rights.

“Aaron is a gifted visionary whose unique style of storytelling is a welcome voice and we are elated The Freemans are making their thugnificent comeback on HBO Max,” said Kevin Reilly, chief content officer for HBO Max.

The series will “follow the adventures of self-proclaimed ‘Civil Rights Legend’ Robert ‘Granddad’ Freeman, and his two rambunctious grandsons Huey and Riley. The family has recently moved to an idyllic community in suburban Maryland only to see it taken over by the tyrannical Uncle Ruckus (Listen to Uncle Ruckus appearance on the Breakfast Club early this year) and his bizarre neo-fascist regime. Life under Ruckus turns out to be an everyday struggle to survive.”

Be on the lookout for the new season of “The Boondocks” to premiere something in 2020, on HBO Max.
