Contracts Talks and Contract Agreements.

After months and months of waiting for a new deal for one of the best running backs in the NFL, Saquon and New York Giants came to an agreement on a 1 year $11 million dollar extension. Saquon Barkley was eyeing a contract in the range of $16 million, while the New York Giants were only willing to offer $13 million. The running back market continues to be a big question around the league with many star running backs that are leaving them feeling underpaid. The trend right now is to not pay the running backs. Saquon was willing to holdout and forgo the 2023 NFL season until he could find a contract that is around what he was seeking. By holding out it would’ve shown his true value to the New York Giants, but by doing so he knew it would hurt his team and teammates, as he is the center piece to the Giants offense.

Saquon’s Health.

The former No. 2 pick has been the team’s identity when healthy since they moved on from former quarterback Eli Manning. Injuries have been the big questions for most of Saquon’s career, as a knee and ankle injury kept him out of 21 games from 2019 through 2021. The big questions for the Giants is do they pay the man that when is healthy is one of the most valuable offensive weapons in the league or do they move on and look for either an up and coming back that is a free agent or a running back that the could draft and mold into what they’re looking for.

Team Development.

The New York Giants are looking to make the next step in the NFC East as they finished 12-5 last season and as the second place team in that division. The Giants will need all hands on deck as the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys are progressing faster than projected. As the Eagles went to the Super Bowl last season, and look to go back there again this year. Behind a healthy Saquon the league is on watch for what this team can do as Daniel Jones looks to continue to show that he can belongs in this league with his dual threat build. The new pieces that the Giants signed this off season and picked in the draft should take a giant load off Saquon’s hand and help him stay healthy this season and be a top running back in the league this year.
