The biggest story on Monday night is will Russell Wilson be the Russell Wilson we know. So far this
season the Broncos are 2-3 but have not been playing up to the level we expected going into this
season. They are losing close games and their only wins have also been close calls. The Broncos have only scored more than 20 points in one game out of the 5 games they have played. And the finger is being pointed at
Russell Wilson who is underperforming. Last year Wilsons had 10 passing touchdowns thru 5 games and
this season only has 4. Is it the wrong offense that is being run by the Broncos or is it Russell who just
needs to find his groove?
Tonight’s game against a division rival the LA Chargers could be the best night for Russell Wilson to really showcase that he still can be a top-tier quarterback. But Wilson isn’t the only problem for the Broncos offense as they can’t get the ball moving on the ground to help the passing game. The Denver Broncos offense has only produced 2 touchdowns on the ground this season so far and they face a defense that allows an average of 130 rushing yards per game so there is hope that they can get the ball moving and help Russell get back to his ways. If we get the Russell Wilson we got used to seeing in Seattle then the Denver Broncos have a shot at turning this season around before it gets worse.
The LA Chargers are in a good spot in the division with a 3-2 record sitting in second place behind the Chiefs. After a Chiefs loss that gives the Chargers a chance to tie for first place in the division. And it all starts with Justin Herbert who has had a strong season so far despite the close game that the chargers have lost one bad blowout against the Jaguars. Herbert is already on pace for a 5,000 yards season with 1,478 yards through 5 games and has thrown for 10 touchdowns.
Under the big lights expect Herbert to come out firing and put on a show. As of late Herbert has had some help from the running game, especially from Austin Ekeler who has come alive the past two games scoring 3 touchdowns on the ground and 2 in the air. It’s the spark the LA Chargers needed in their last 2 games to win games after going on a 2 game losing streak in weeks 2 and 3. But they face a tough defense Monday night that
has only allowed opponents to score 16 points a game, 176.6 passing yards per game, and 112.4 yards on the ground, and allowed 2 rushing touchdowns all season.
So tonight’s matchup is a great offense against a great defense. And it will all come down to who wants it more and who is going to make that one play to turn the game in their favor and go home with the win. Also, you have a young talented quarterback in Justin Herbert whose future looks bright and many great things come for the NFL while on the other side you have Russell Wilson who is a super bowl champion still trying to figure out this new team he has or maybe just figure himself out. Tonight the world will know if it’s still Russell Wilson’s time or Justin Herbert’s. Tune in and watch a great division matchup on Monday Night Football on ESPN at 7:15 PM CT / 8:15 PM EDT
