The live-action Powerpuff Girls series set to air on the CW has released the first official promo image. Based on the original Cartoon Network animated series and characters created by Craig McCracken. So Sugar, Spice, Everything Nice, and the addition of Chemical X created three perfect little girls, but what happens when America’s pint-sized superheroes Blossom (Chloe Bennet), Bubbles (Dove Cameron), and Buttercup (Yana Perrault ), are now are disillusioned twentysomethings who resent having lost their childhood to crime-fighting. Will they agree to reunite now that the world needs them more than ever?

Photos from the set have surfaced last week, giving fans a  first real look at what to expect first look as Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup were all decked out in their costumes, which are simple and minimalist. The series will also star Donald Faison as Professor Drake Utonium and Nicholas Podany as Mojo Jojo Jr.

Heather Regnier (Veronica Mars) and Diablo Cody (Juno) have written the script for the pilot, and Maggie Kiley is set to direct. Regnier, Cody, and Kiley will all executive produce alongside Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and David Madden.

Here are the character descriptions via Variety:

Blossom — though she was a spunky, conscientious, Little-Miss-Perfect child who holds several advanced degrees — has repressed kiddie-superhero trauma has left her feeling anxious and reclusive, and she aims to become a leader again, this time on her own terms.

Bubbles’ sweet-girl disposition won America’s hearts as a child. She still sparkles as an adult, but her charming exterior belies an unexpected toughness and wit. She’s initially more interested in recapturing her fame than saving the world, but she just might surprise us and herself.

Buttercup was the rebellious badass of The Powerpuff Girls in its heyday. More sensitive than her tough exterior suggests, Buttercup has spent her adulthood trying to shed her Powerpuff Girl identity and live an anonymous life.
