During the New England Patriots Week 6 Thursday Night Football game against the New York Giants, wide receiver Josh Gordon went down awkwardly while trying to tackle a Giants defender on a fumble recovery. Gordon would miss the rest of that game and last week’s matchup against the New York Jets. Now, reports are that the Patriots are going to place him on IR.

With New England acquiring Mohamed Sanu for a second-round pick, and 2019 first-round pick N’Keal Harry designated to return by Week 9 at the earliest, Gordon’s time with the Patriots is likely over. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that the team will waive him when he’s healthy. The issue is believed to be bone bruises in both knees.

However, the injuries aren’t new. The incident against the Giants re-aggravated the injury. Gordon believes that he should be healthy within a couple weeks.

If he can return to health Gordon could be a late-season addition for a team with an eye towards getting him fully integrated ahead of the 2020 season.
