The Nike PG3 “NASA” was debuted by Paul George last night in San Antonio against the Spurs. This was inspired by the NASA facility that’s located in Palmdale, CA where PG-13 was born and raised. The Nike PG3 “NASA” colorway has a bright orange upper mesh that can be seen from miles away to give it that flash and pop to standout. The one thing that stands out a lot is the logos on the tongue area and on the back heel. The tongue has the American flag on the right shoe and the PG logo on the left shoe. The collar was created to get the spacesuit vibe out and Nike nailed it with this.

Tony Hardman, the guy behind all of Paul George’s signature sneakers has done a great job of communicating with PG-13 and trying to make a shoe that continues to express Paul as a person and advance his game every year. When I went to Nike in the summer and laid my eyes on the shoe the one thing I realized is that Tony made it a lot lighter than the Nike PG2 & PG 2.5. Tony was able to add the forefoot Air Zoom bag and synthetic wings to the Nike PG3 tech which suits George’s game.

“Reducing the weight suits his style of play. He’ll set and pop from three off of his forefoot, and he’s doing a lot of cutting and slashing from the balls of his feet, both offensively and defensively,” says Hardman. “That softer midsole foam and the forefoot Zoom Bag help him to generate more speed.”

“When you don’t need to fuse or laminate those support elements, you can keep the upper softer and sock-like,” says Hardman. “That’s what the forefoot wings do. The upper can work underneath, but the wings still lock you in.”

The Nike PG3 has a lot of personal details in the shoe that Tony wanted to be apart of this silhouette. The PG3 includes Paul’s birthday, number of tattoos, jersey number. The outsole of the Nike PG3 has circular traction that resembles the moon craters and gives that true NASA vibe to go with the theme of the sneaker. Paul George’s favorite quote is “Don’t tell me the sky’s the limit when there are footprints on the moon”.

Nike used that to their advantage with this collab with NASA and really have drawn the crowd into the PG3. When sneakers get leaked in advance people always have an opinion and I saw a lot of people write off the PG3 before he wore them against the Spurs. Now with the official images and the rollout from Nike, those same people are trying to take back what they first thought and jumping on the PG3 bandwagon as I assumed.
