In perhaps the most shocking move of the NBA free agency season, the Golden State Warriors have just signed DeMarcus Cousins, according to Shams Charania. The terms are for one year with a payout of $5.3 million dollars.
Coming off an Achilles injury and with money flying around to other players since free agency began, plenty of teams had interest in Cousins but they were scared to pull the trigger. If you look at twitter you will see a bunch of angry people over the signing but you can’t blame the Warriors for stepping up with the offer, nor can you blame Cousins for wanting to be in that championship environment.
Cousins essentially took the offer so he can rehab on a team that won’t really need his services till later in the season but he also took much less money than he is worth just to prove he can still play and command a major offer the season after next.
Before being injured last season, Cousins was averaging 25.2 points per game to go along with 12.9 rebounds and 5.4 assists. Once he is healthy, there is really no debate that the Warriors would have the greatest starting five of all time with Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant, Draymond Green and Cousins.
Once again the Warriors prove that winning is the only thing that matters and they will do whatever it takes to make that happen.
