The Genealogy of Air Jordan Goes Freestyle with Doernbecher x Air Jordan 1 “What The”

The Genealogy of Air Jordan Goes Freestyle with Doernbecher x Air Jordan 1 “What The”

Sneaker Releases

The Nike and Doernbecher Freestyle event has raised more than $29 million for OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital since 2003 to protect the health of children in Oregon, southwest Washington and beyond while last year paused the annual Doernbecher Freestyle program, its sense of possibility wasn’t.

As a tribute this Jordan 1 celebrates the 14 former patient-designers from across the genealogy of Air Jordan Doernbecher editions, incorporating elements from each of their original Air Jordan Doernbecher designs.

“This year, we weren’t able to have patient-designers, but that didn’t stop us from celebrating, because it’s an annual moment that the kids, the sneaker community and Doernbecher circles on their calendars — as well as all of us at the company,” says Eric Sandy, Color Design Director for Jordan Brand. “We took it as an opportunity to celebrate prior patient-designers and their inspiring stories, culminating those details into a ‘What The’ design.”

In honor of the 17th year of the program, only 17 pairs of the Air Jordan I “What The” Doernbecher was created. The first Air Jordan I “What The” Doernbecher, with a custom lasered box, was auctioned off during the Virtually Freestyle event on Feb. 25. The remaining 16 pairs will be auctioned on eBay beginning at 12 PM PT on Friday, February 26th and ending at 12 PM PT on Wednesday, March 3rd.

Reebok Pump Omni II Release Date

Reebok Pump Omni II Release Date

Featured

After 30 years, Reebok is finally returning to one of their most storied silhouettes of all-time. Back in February 1991, then rookie point guard Dee Brown pressed the basketball-shaped button on his shoes before taking off from the free throw line while doing his now iconic blindfold dunk. This is the first time since Dee donned the Pump Omni Zone II that the shoe has been rereleased in its initial hightop offering.

Restored in all it’s 90s edginess, the Pump Omni Zone II features a black and white upper with its signature basketball textured pump button on the tongue. Fitted inside that tongue is an air bladder that constricts the shoe in order to better fit wearer’s preferences. The silhouette is topped off with a white TPU overlay, offering a little bit of that dynamic flair Reebok was so known for in the 90s with Shawn Kemp and Shaq lines. The Pump Omni Zone II is set to drop March 5th and retail for $140.
