Ant Man’s 34 Point Performance Propels Minnesota To Victory Over The Spurs (114-105)
FeaturedThe Minnesota Timberwolves were coming off a win against Brooklyn on Saturday. Tonight they would be facing the San Antonio Spurs who are led by rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama he’s been special all year long. The Timberwolves would be without Karl-Anthony Towns due to personal reasons and Rudy Gobert was a game time decision but he was active for the Spurs matchup.
The Timberwolves came out on fire in this game as it seemed as though they couldn’t miss anything. Anthony Edwards started that 1st quarter off with 12 points and continued to take off from there. Edwards was getting to his spots and he was able to get his jumper whenever he wanted tonight with his step back that creates space. When Edwards has it going like this the Timberwolves are tough to beat it doesn’t matter who they’re playing or who’s available on his team. During the game Anthony Edwards ended up tweaking his ankle before halftime as the crowd went from cheers to worrisome faces. Ant Man came back to start that 2nd half and gave the team that boost they needed as he finished the game with 34 points.
Rudy Gobert had himself a night as well being that true defensive anchor and showing his dominance in the paint against the Spurs and Wemby. Rudy Gobert was able to pound the paint as he finished with a double double of 13 points and 17 rebounds. Rudy was able to body anyone that was guarding him in the paint tonight between Wemby/Collins and was able to make it tough on San Antonio tonight.
The other big man Naz Reid had himself a night as well finishing with 22 points and 6 rebounds on the night. When Naz plays like this off the bench it opens up the game for the Timberwolves when it comes to lineups and matchups throughout the game. Naz is one of those nightmare mismatches for defenses because he can do everything from bring the ball up the court to posting you up and so much more.
The Timberwolves as a whole made this a blowout in that 3rd quarter but the Spurs kept fighting to stay in the game inching closer and closer to their lead. Wemby was special in his time out there but it was Keldon Johnson off the bench with his 20 points and Devin Vassell with his 21 points that kept the Spurs making noise in this game. They kept hitting shot after shot to counter the 2 pointers the Timberwolves were making. The Spurs fought til the end but the Wolves had the last say in this game.
Minnesota has another game tomorrow against the Memphis Grizzlies and Anthony Edwards who tweaked his ankle said that he will be playing tomorrow.
