The Timberwolves Fall To The Short Handed San Antonio Spurs (107-98)

The Timberwolves Fall To The Short Handed San Antonio Spurs (107-98)

The Timberwolves were coming into this game after a win against the Lakers on Friday. Tonight they faced the San Antonio Spurs who they saw twice last week. Both the Timberwolves and Spurs split their matchups last week (1-1). The Spurs came into this game on a mission as they were the aggressive team from the tip-off. It was tough for the Timberwolves to keep up with the Spurs in transition as they were outplaying with energy. The Spurs made every hustle play and imposed their will tonight with ease. Keldon Johnson was the star of the game for the Spurs.

Johnson showed that he was able to improve his 3-point shooting this offseason and showed he had the big shot-making ability. On the night Johnson had 25 points, 8 assists, and 6 rebounds. Anything Coach Pop needed from Johnson he was able to get as he was scoring on whoever defended him. The Timberwolves were able to shut down the majority of the starters on the night for the Spurs except for Keldon Johnson. The unsung hero for the game tonight for the Spurs was Doug McDermott as he shot 50% from the field and scored 23 points off the bench. When McDermott is that hot it can be a long night and it definitely was for the Timberwolves. At one point the Timberwolves were down by 19 points but they came all the way back down by 4 points.

It was the bench scoring that hurt the Timberwolves because the Spurs bench scored 43 of the 107 points. The bright spot for the Timberwolves was that Karl-Anthony Towns was able to get his rhythm going on the night. Towns finished with 26 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 assists. It was one of those games where he came out and let it be known it was his night. Anthony Edwards was struggling early in this game and that gave Towns more opportunity. This team has all the ingredients to be special but they need some time to get that chemistry down. It won’t happen overnight and you can’t rush it but it will take the small things like energy, hustle, and heart if they want to win. They have all of that and more we just need to see it on a consistent basis. Anthony Edwards’ offense came to life in the 2nd half as he finished with 18 points.

The Timberwolves will look to bounce back as they play the Phoenix Suns next on November 1st. As the Timberwolves will now start a small stretch of games where they will be playing playoff contenders.

Minnesota Timberwolves Defeat The Los Angeles Lakers (111-102)

Minnesota Timberwolves Defeat The Los Angeles Lakers (111-102)

Featured

The Minnesota Timberwolves have found their groove as a team as of late and aren’t looking back. Game by game the Timberwolves are learning how to play with each other. Tonight the Timberwolves took out that chemistry on the Lakers. It was going to be different this time around as Russell Westbrook was going to be coming off the bench for the Lakers who were without Anthony Davis.

It was all about the Timberwolves in this matchup as it seemed from the beginning they could score whenever they wanted. Rudy Gobert set the tone for the Timberwolves as he was able to control the paint with no issues. On the night Rudy had 22 points with 21 rebounds. Gobert was making the smaller Laker defenders pay as he was able to punish them inside on the boards and defensively. When Rudy Gobert is locked in the NBA is in trouble. Now add Rudy to the fact you still have Karl-Anthony Towns this team has been causing mayhem all year long. The Lakers tried putting different bigs on Towns & Gobert but it didn’t work out as planned

The Timberwolves Get Revenge Against The Spurs Tonight (134-122)

The Timberwolves Get Revenge Against The Spurs Tonight (134-122)

Featured

The Minnesota Timberwolves played the Spurs on Monday night and didn’t go as planned. Tonight the Timberwolves came into this game with revenge on their minds. It seemed the Timberwolves were in attack mode and didn’t look back. The Spurs were without Vassel and Primo but the Timberwolves didn’t have Kyle Anderson. Anthony Edwards set the tone on the offensive end from the tip-off. Edwards said that he put the loss to the Spurs on Monday on him. So he came out, put on a show, and didn’t look back all night. On the night Anthony Edwards finished with 34 points, 9 assists, and 3 rebounds. He was able to get to the basket at will and he was hitting his 3-point shot at a high clip. When Edwards is playing like this he’s unstoppable and there is nothing an opposing team can do about it. The Spurs were putting multiple defenders on Anthony Edwards but it wasn’t working at all. Edwards play was able to create and draw a couple of double teams which opened things up for his teammates.

The Timberwolves in total had 4 players in double figures tonight against the Spurs. Anthony Edwards had the most points but it was the 6th man Jaylen Nowell who stole the crowd spotlight. Jaylen came in the game and gave the Timberwolves instant offense as he makes scoring look effortless. Jaylen has improved his defense and he showed that by guarding multiple players on the Spurs. It was Jaylen Nowell’s scoring that came and gave the Timberwolves a spark when it was needed. Jaylen was scoring inside and out tonight against the Spurs. Nowell even had a poster dunk on Poeltl that got the crowd hyped as they were chanting his name.

This Timberwolves team has a lot of potential to blow teams out every night but they need to buckle down on the turnovers and the defensive end. Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert had some great stat lines as well but it’s always nice to take the backseat when you have a couple of other scorers that got it going like Nowell and Edwards. Jaden McDaniels showed a lot of promise tonight as well hitting his jumper consistently. If McDaniels adds that to his game it could be scary because the Spurs weren’t able to stay in front of him. McDaniels had a couple of dunks in the game and made the Spurs pay on the defensive end with his quickness and length.

The Spurs Keldon Johnson had 27 points on the night but the Timberwolves just had too much firepower. The Spurs have a great future ahead of them and they ran into a Wolves team that’s built for the present.

The Timberwolves will be playing against the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday as they look to stay in the win column. The Lakers are coming into this matchup against Minnesota (0-4)

The San Antonio Spurs Hot Shooting Night Takes Down Minnesota (115-106)

The San Antonio Spurs Hot Shooting Night Takes Down Minnesota (115-106)

Featured

The Minnesota Timberwolves came into tonight’s game after beating the Thunder last night. It’s the night after a back-to-back and the Spurs came out on fire. The Timberwolves got hit with a flurry of offense out of the gates and the Spurs used their quickness. One of the players that set the tone for the Spurs was Jeremy Sochan as he was able to make all the energy plays and timely plays to start the game. Sochan’s energy spread through the team and his hustle plays helped out big time. On the night Sochan finished with 14 points and 4 rebounds but defensively he made some huge stops too. Both Devin Vassell and Keldon Johnson stepped up to the plate with some big shots in the second half of this game. It seemed like the Spurs couldn’t miss at all tonight as they were shooting above 50% almost the whole game. Combined Devin and Keldon had 41 points against the Timberwolves. It was the Spurs unconscious shooting from the field that had made them unstoppable. The Spurs were up by 30 points during the game and it seemed as if the Timberwolves were just playing catch up.

If you could take some positives away from this game for the Timberwolves it would be rhythm. Coach Finch wanted to see the team play together a little longer that’s why he didn’t take them out in garbage time. This Timberwolves team has the chance to be special and tonight they didn’t get the chance to showcase that at all. It’s tough to play at your best when you have to dig yourself out of a hole. One good thing that came out of tonight’s game was the fact that Karl-Anthony Towns & D’Angelo Russell were able to get their game going and finding a true groove. Russell and Towns had a combined 52 points out of the 106 points that the Timberwolves scored tonight. The Wolves were clawing back all night but it wasn’t enough to stop the bleeding. The best thing about the NBA is the fact it’s an 82-game season and the Timberwolves will play the Spurs again on Wednesday. It’s all about positive vibes and the Timberwolves know they have more games and they know that a loss like this doesn’t define them.

Coach Finch has a lot to figure out with this roster but anything is possible when you have a true leader like Coach Finch. The Timberwolves will bounce back as Anthony Edwards put this loss on himself and that’s a huge stride for such a young player. If the Timberwolves can limit the breakdowns defensively and make sure that they are knocking down their shots anything is possible for Minnesota.

Anthony Edwards 30 Point Performance Powers Minnesota Past OKC (116-106)

Anthony Edwards 30 Point Performance Powers Minnesota Past OKC (116-106)

Featured

The Timberwolves are coming off a tough loss to the Utah Jazz in Minnesota. Tonight they were looking to get back into the winning column in OKC. The OKC Thunder were coming into this contest against the Timberwolves without Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Hip). Right from the start Minnesota was aggressive and imposed its will in the paint. Both Gobert and Towns were dominating the paint as the Thunder had no answer for them. The Timberwolves realized that they have a mismatch in the paint and took advantage of the lack of size with the Thunder.

Towns was able to beat them inside and out offensively and Rudy added to it defensively as well. On the night Karl-Anthony Towns had 15 points, 5 assists, and 8 rebounds on the evening. His counterpart in the paint Rudy Gobert had 15 points and 15 rebounds tonight. People have wondered how this tandem would look and they both have put the league on notice. Towns have the perfect style to play alongside Rudy Gobert as he’s been connecting with him on alley-oops with ease. Both of the bigs have been able to make an instant impact in the paint and it will be tough for teams to get in there against Minnesota.

The Thunder struggled in that first half and it wasn’t until close to halftime that they started to make a comeback in the game. Lu Dort came to play on both sides of the ball and he was able to get his offense going tonight as he was the only real bright spot for the Thunder. Lu Dort finished with 20 points and he will look to continue to be that leader for this young core. The Thunder have a bright future and it shined bright in the first half with Josh Giddey as he finished with 10 points, 5 assists, and 2 rebounds before injuring his ankle. It seemed like it was tough for the Thunder to get back after losing Giddey.

In the second half, the Timberwolves adjusted and went to the small ball lineup and it worked perfectly. Anthony Edwards finished the game with 30 points, 3 assists, and 11 rebounds as he was in his bag. There was nothing that Edwards couldn’t do to the Thunder as he was able to score when he wanted with ease. Edwards showed his arsenal tonight as he was scoring with the Euro-Step, Stepback, and Fadeaways. It was pretty much the Ant Show all night as the small ball lineup was able to get Towns/Gobert/Russell some well deserved rest knowing that they play the Spurs tomorrow. Edwards is a bright and up-and-coming star in the NBA and you can see the work he put in during the offseason.

The Timberwolves bench was able to produce 3 double-digit scorers tonight as Nowell, Prince, and Reid combined for 39 points. Naz Reid has been showing that he’s earned some extended minutes and came to play and Nowell has been looking at that 6th Man of the Year Award already.

The Minnesota Timberwolves will look to keep this going as they play the San Antonio Spurs tomorrow at home.

The Utah Jazz Stun The Minnesota Timberwolves In OT (132-126)

The Utah Jazz Stun The Minnesota Timberwolves In OT (132-126)

Featured

The Minnesota Timberwolves came into this game 1-0 and thriving as a unit after beating OKC. One of the craziest things that came out of that game is the fact that Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards didn’t have huge games. In the game against the Utah Jazz that was a different story as all of the Big 4 on the Timberwolves put in work. Anthony Edwards scored 30 points, Karl-Anthony had 27 points, and D’Angelo had 23 points. The Timberwolves will go as far as Anthony Edwards brings him because he is the true X-Factor on this team. If Edwards can play as how he did in the playoffs this team would be unstoppable.

This was a great sight to see as a Timberwolves fan and we can’t forget the dominance in the paint from Gobert. Rudy was able to get 9 points and 23 rebounds. The Timberwolves had the game in their hands early but let things slip away as the Jazz took advantage of Towns/Gobert going to the bench. Russell made a huge shot to get them to the overtime but it wasn’t enough for them to get it done. This Timberwolves team is special and once they have the chemistry down it will be EPIC.

The Jazz attacked the paint and was able to get on the boards in a major way. The Jazz had 52 points in the paint and they had 54 rebounds with giving up too many second chance points. The Timberwolves were doing great on the boards but it seemed like whenever they missed a crucial rebound it led to a big shot from the Jazz. The Utah Jazz came into the game against the Timberwolves with a lot of energy and was able to scrap. One of the players that set the tone for the Utah Jazz was Jordan Clarkson who finished with 29 points on the night. It seemed as though any time the Jazz needed a bucket they went to Clarkson who people might think is on the trading block. Jordan Clarkson has been the 6th man but it seems like his role is now to be the leader of this team with Mike Conley.

If the Jazz continues to flourish like this early in the season they could see them stay together. Lauri Markkanen was in his bag as well because he was able to hit some big shots. Lauri finished with 24 points, 5 assists, and 13 rebounds on the night. Some of the shots that he made were on Towns/Gobert. Kelly Olynyk was having a great game as well until he got fouled out as he finished with 21 points. The Timberwolves had some chances to get the job done in regulation but they missed out on it as they rushed the offense.

The Timberwolves play the Thunder on Sunday as they look to go 2-1 on the young season.
