Will Smith has “Fresh Prince” Spin-Off Series in Development

Celebs

Now we all know this little story all about how Will Smith became ‘The Fresh Prince’ it a ballad that no one will forget. A series that is licensed to air in 193 territories. Well according to recent reports ‘The Fresh Prince’ is back.

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Will Smith’s entertainment company Westbrook Inc. is developing a spinoff of the popular ’90s sitcom series.

Westbrook Inc. is a cross-platform company Will and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith run launched back in July, “designed to expand the Smith family brand beyond film and TV into new media, technology, and even merchandising.”

The corporation has been busy cooking up the recently announced Bel-air Athletics clothing line, featuring homages to the first few seasons which was spent at Bel-air prep. One of the track jackets has a funky design meant to be reversible, reminisced of how Will wore his uniform jacket to be an individual.

The rumor of a reboot or sequel have run rampant since 2015, the thoughts of a sequel would star son Jaden Smith. Jaden’s character would be the son of the Fresh Prince but would go from riches to rags in a sense moving from Bel-air to West Philly to stay with his cousin and learn the value of hard work. Now that a story Netflix can get behind. It was reported that Smith was shopping a remake of the classic ’90s sitcom for modern times.

Currently, there’s a trailer of this exact idea entitled “Bel-Air” on YouTube created by Morgan Cooper, starring Jerry Madison as Will Smith. The trailer was so good it even caught the attention on ‘The Fresh Prince’ himself.

“I had no idea that ‘Fresh Prince’ would have that kind of impact,” Smith said during a 2018 interview, on TIDAL’s Rap Radar podcast. “When I look back on it, I can see. It was like, ‘Duh.’ The intercultural racism between the rich blacks and poor blacks and the idea of being uprooted and put into the full mainstream white world, I can see where those ideas would make for a rich show.”

With no further details on the show, we can only speculate on the direction the spin-off/sequel will take. But we know for certain episode one will pay homage to James Avery aka Uncle Phil, because as J. Cole put it “First things first: rest in peace Uncle Phil, For real, you the only father that I ever knew.”

Now with the news of the shows return what do you guys think, will it be as funny, impactful, and needed for the black community as its predecessor or will it be another failed attempt at reviving a 90s sitcom? Let us know in the comments below:

Dame Lillard and Shaquille O’Neal Battle It Out

Dame Lillard and Shaquille O’Neal Battle It Out

Celebs

Damian Lillard is no stranger to the fire. Whether leading the Portland Trailblazers or behind the mic, Dame runs head first into battle. In an interview on Joe Budden’s podcast, Dame declared himself a better rapper than Shaquille O’Neal, who Dame said gained notoriety for his larger-than-life personality rather than his technical rapping ability. “I think he was viewed as Shaq People weren’t looking like this a real rapper. It was like, ‘That’s Shaq rapping.’ So, of course, it was a big deal.”

Shaq took Lillard’s comments as an affront and took to Instagram to release a response on wax, taking shots at Dame’s ringlessness several times over the 4 minute track over Dr. Dre’s “What’s The Difference.” “Legendary I’m a hip-hop scholar / I’m tryin’ to get a billion who gives a f**k about a D.O.L.L.A / Take ya time to respond, there’s no hurry / You’ll never be Westbrook, never be Steph Curry,” Shaq spat at the 4x NBA All-Star. Dame then released his response, a verbal flurry titled “Reign Reign Go Away” a coy reference to Diesel’s 1996 album “Can’t Stop The Reign.”

Whereas Shaquille’s disses equated to surface level “RINGSSS” talk, Dame cut deep, “Said yourself that I’m a Tesla, no longer need diesel gas/ Kinda like the Cavs ain’t really need Diesel ass/And even in Miami, won that on the strength of Flash”

To add insult to injury, Dame used the now famous meme crying Shaq meme born from his appearance on Hot Ones. Dame waited patiently for a response from the Big Aristotle but apparently had more to get off his chest and let the shots ring off with another diss song called “I Rest My Case” where Lillard takes shots at Shaq and any pundits that believed Shaq prevailed in their war of words.

On the track, Dame cleverly leverages Shaq’s record on the court and his underwhelming diss track, rapping “Raised real solid, I’m DOLLA but not for dollar  sign/Only Dame you beat was 2000 and that was Stoudemire.” Much like Dame’s on the court demeanor, Dolla attacked Shaq relentlessly throughout the bought referencing his shoe line, his love for EDM festivals, and generally goofy persona.

But the Big Diesel isn’t one to go down without a fight, and after taking some ferocious blows, he came back with another verbal lashing towards Dame this time over Puff Daddy’s Victory. Shaq leans heavily on the familiarity of the instrumental, even co-opting Puff’s flow in the “intro” portion singing

“Yo, the sun gon’ shine forever/ All my statues and retired jerseys, I’ma live forever/Better now or never, kill Damon, my pleasure/ We see you lose every year, nobody do it better”

Shaq’s coworker Charles Barkley takes a stray as Shaq attacks Dame, spitting

“What, you think I wasn’t gonna respond?/ Droppin’ little grenades, I’m droppin’ them nuclear bombs/ Everybody gon’ hear this ether/ I don’t like your ass, I don’t like Charles Barkley either”

Dame has yet to respond to the latest diss track but with there still being a few days before the season starts there’s still a chance that Dame fires back at Kazaam.

The first biography on Nipsey Hussle detailing the artist’s life in-depth will be published by Atria Books. It’s set to hit bookstores on March 24, 2020.

“The Marathon Don’t Stop: The Life and Times of Nipsey Hussle,” was written by music journalist Rob Kenner, and edited by Michelle Herrera Mulligan, a senior editor at Atria. According to Complex, the unauthorized biography will feature on-the-ground reporting and interviews with Nipsey’s friends and family.

“The last time I spoke with Nipsey Hussle, he told me, ‘I ain’t outside giving out jewelry or dropping off bags of money on people, but I’m giving out game,’” says Kenner. “This book is my attempt to help fulfill that intention. The Marathon Don’t Stop will also place his accomplishments in proper historical context, giving Nipsey Hussle his rightful place in the history of hip-hop, Los Angeles, and America. It will include interviews with people who haven’t spoken before, as well as insights into the forces that shaped Hussle into the man he became.”

“Nipsey has inspired an entire generation of people who have felt invisible in their communities,” says Michelle Herrera Mulligan, “This book will share the blueprint of Nipsey’s success, drawn on the streets where he was raised.”

Kenner, a founding editor of VIBE, whose work has also appeared in The New York Times, Complex, Billboard, Mass Appeal, Ego Trip, Pigeons & Planes, and more, says he wanted to write a book about Nipsey because he was inspired by both his words and his actions.

“He was one of the most fascinating artists of our time, as well as an important activist and thought leader, but he received relatively little acclaim during his lifetime,”said Kenner “My purpose is to lift the best parts of Nipsey Hussle’s legacy so that they will live on and inspire others.”

Kenner has decided to donate a portion of the proceeds from the book to Nipsey’s estate out of respect. In the wake of Nipsey’s death, his family has launched the Neighborhood Nip Foundation, which will continue Nipsey’s efforts in his community. PUMA also released a collaborative collection with his Marathon Clothing brand, with all net proceeds going to the Neighborhood Nip Foundation.
