Celebs

Travis Scott continues to be an entertainment maverick, creating new experiences in each realm in which he chooses to delve. From virtual concert experiences in Fortnite, to creating a meal and match merchandise for McDonalds, to releasing his latest music video in IMAX theaters Scott has been breaking the mold and shattering expectations. Each Travis Scott event is a lightning strike in the collective consciousness of the culture.

After several collaborations with Nike and Jordan Brand, Travis Scott is bridging the gap once again. In a whirlwind move leading up to the launch of the PlayStation 5, Sony has announced Travis Scott’s new position with the Playstation team and with it a surprise new collaboration. Nike and PlayStation have collaborated a few times before but with Travis Scott’s new position as one of PlayStation’s ‘strategic creative partners’ this is surely bringing them into a new and noteworthy world.

In a video announcing the decision, Travis can be seen in a pair of white and grey Nike SB Dunk lows with his signature reverse swoosh on the lateral side as well as the PS logo near the heel. While the Paul George collaborations have been collectors gems and the PlayStation Air Forces are the stuff of legend with one of the world’s most popular entertainers on board this is sure to catapult this collaboration into the ionosphere.

Will these shoes ever see the light of day? Surely more information will come forth as we near the PlayStation 5’s November release date.

SZA is back with her new Ty Dolla $ign-assisted single “Hit Different,” accompanied by a stunning video, marking the artist directorial debut.

SZA hits us with the same hypnotic melodies that fans loved on her debut album Ctrl, coupled with Ty’s smooth flow anchoring the song with a catchy hook. This is a promising return to the spotlight.

Produced by The Neptunes, the mid-tempo bop showcases SZA’s hypnotic melodies alongside Ty’s smooth flow. Along with the song, she has released a stunning video, marking her directorial debut.

The Neptunes-produced is a dream collaboration for SZA as she told Apple Music in a recent interview.

“I can’t really wrap my head around the experience and I think more so I’m fangirling off of having a track produced by probably the most formative producers and artists for me when I was growing up,” she said.

“I cried just explaining to Pharrell what he meant to me growing up here in the burbs—being one of five black people in my radius. It just was really crazy because you have your idols in your mind and I avoid mine all the time in case it don’t go well. And I just was really astonished. Chad was just perfect and Pharrell was just perfect. It was too perfect.”

The stylish, SZA-directed video, finds her dancing with a group of women among broken-down cars through an auto junkyard as she recounts the highs and lows of an intoxicating relationship. Until taking a solo about three minutes in when the song’s tempo slows to an ambient chill.

It’s been three years since SZA released her debut album, but the long-awaited follow-up to Ctrl is finally seems to be in the near future with this single.

“ I just really want to put out more music and more—this body of work that I’ve been working on…everything sounds different,” she said. “But it all sounds like me. But I realized…as long as the essence of me is in it I’m not really stressed about continuity or making sense to anybody. I’ve been making a shit ton of music. If you really leave it up to me, ain’t no telling when shit’s gonna come out because I have anxiety… I’ve never felt so loose in the world before.”

CACTUS JACK For McDonald’s The Fast Food Giant is Adding A Travis Scott Meal to The Menu

CACTUS JACK For McDonald’s The Fast Food Giant is Adding A Travis Scott Meal to The Menu

Celebs

Travis has been a busy man, following last weeks release of his brand new song off the soundtrack to Christopher Nolan’s highly-anticipated spy thriller Tenet. Travis Scott has announced his collaboration with the fast food giant McDonald’s.

Travis previously hinted that he was working on a “secret project” during his cover story with GQ. “Tell me if you’re fucking with this,” he told the magazine before adding, “Fire, right?”

Prior to the announcement, an ad for the “Travis Scott Meal” leaked online. After weeks of rumors and leaks, he takes to social media on Thursday, making it official.

In a leaked memo, obtained by Business Insider, McDonald’s chief marketing officer Morgan Flatley spoke about the collab.

“From his impossible-to-get Nike sneaker line, to a cereal collab with General Mills that sold out in 30 seconds, to a record-setting virtual concert series inside Fortnite, Travis Scott is the definition of big in culture,” reads the memo. “Beyond this, he is a true fan of McDonald’s and our cravable, iconic food. He will resonate and spark excitement with our youthful multicultural customers, and has a few surprises to delight our crew and ensure they are part of the excitement.”

The limited time meal will include a Quarter Pounder, Sprite, and French fries for the price $6

In addition to the limited time meal, there also appears to be a Happy Meal toy set including a figurine of Travis, complete with French fries, soft drink, burger, and even a mask.

This partnership is key to remaining relevant and winning over younger customers, Travis unique ability to see and have a hand in where culture is going coupled with his huge followership and social-media footprint, were sited as him being perfect person to reach people under the age of 34. As it’s becoming more and more challenging for brands to reach them.

Travis is reportedly the first of more celebrity collaborations McDonald’s is planning. “We can’t wait to share the rest of the lineup,” Flatley adds in the memo.

However the partnership has caused some controversy within McDonald’s, with some franchisees pushing back against a deal with the rapper. These franchisees felt that a deal with a rapper known partly for explicit lyrics was a departure from the chain’s more family-friendly voice.

But it seem like people have forgotten that the fast food giant has team up with rappers in the past to reach younger audiences. Pusha T wrote the “I’m Lovin’ It” jingle for McDonald’s, making him the composer of the fast food chain’s longest-running marketing campaign in its 76-year history.

Meanwhile, he continues to build anticipation for his next album, which fans have speculated is called Utopia.
