SR – NBA All-Stars Announced: A Synopsis

SR – NBA All-Stars Announced: A Synopsis

Featured

With less than two weeks to go until the 2020-2021 NBA Season’s All-Star Weekend, the league has just announced the reserves of the rosters who will be joining their respective starting 5 to face off come Saturday, March 7th. With this in mind, we take a lot at our rosters, who made the team, who should’ve made the team, and much more, beginning with the Western All-Stars.

_______________________________________________________

Western Conference All-Stars

Kicking things off, it comes as no surprise that LeBron James finds himself in his 17th All-Star Selection being the very backbone of the Los Angeles Lakers while fellow All-Star and teammate Anthony Davis has been dealing with injury. Also with guaranteed starting positions are Clippers’ Kawhi 5th appearance and Golden State’s very own Stephen Curry, making his 7th appearance. To top off the Western Conference Starters Pool is the Dallas’ Luka Doncic making only his 2nd appearance and The Joker out of Denver Nikola Jokic making his 3rd.

Moving onto the Western Conference Reserve Pool we have some familiar names to All-Star Weekend, listed as shown:

  • Anthony Davis: 8x, Los Angeles Lakers (Questionable due to injury)
  • Paul George: 7x, Los Angeles Clippers
  • Rudy Gobert: 2x, Utah Jazz
  • Damian Lillard: 6x, Portland Trailblazers
  • Donovan Mitchell: 2x, Utah Jazz
  • Chris Paul: 11x, Phoenix Suns
  • Zion Williamson: 1x, New Orleans Pelicans (Reserve)

_______________________________________________________

Eastern Conference All-Stars

Making his return to the All-Star game after a consecutive 10 visits, Kevin Durant will be making his 11th appearance as a Captain. Also a starter is Durant’s teammate Kyrie Irving making his 7th appearance to the All-Star Game. Last year’s Eastern Conference Captain returns in the Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo with his 5th appearances as well as Philly’s very own Joel Embiid with his 4th. To top off the Eastern Starters we have the long awaited, criminally underrated Bradley Beal of the Washington Wizards making his 3rd appearance after what was agreed to be seen as an All-Star snub in 2020.

We now take a look into the Eastern Conference All-Star Reserve Pool, filled with some new faces this time around coming 2021:

  • Jaylen Brown: 1x, Boston Celtics
  • James Harden: 9x, Brooklyn Nets
  • Zach LaVine: 1x, Chicago Bulls
  • Julius Randle: 1x, New York Knicks
  • Ben Simmons: 3x, Philadelphia 76ers
  • Jayson Tatum: 2x, Boston Celtics
  • Nikola Vucevic: 2x, Orlando Magic (Reserve)

Although all players listed are well deserving of their All-Star Selections this year, their is always some question from fans, players, and media alike as to how/why others didn’t manage to make the cut. Some honorable mentions would definitely include but is not exclusive to:

  • Devin Booker, Phoenix Suns
  • Trae Young, Atlanta Hawks
  • Jimmy Butler, Miami Heat
  • Damontas Sabonis, Indiana Pacers
  • Demar DeRozan, San Antonio Spurs
  • Christian Wood, Houston Rockets
  • Fred VanVleet, Toronto Raptors
  • Jerami Grant, Denver Nuggets

Surely a case could be made for many more names around the league other than those listed, which promotes the conflict of wanting to reward the younger guys who’ve really found a footing in the league as well as honoring the veterans who have consistently been apart of the conversation of the league’s best. Is the Rising Stars Game enough to satisfy the drive that these players have to be the best? Perhaps a conversation for another time, but for now it remains to be seen. With all that being said, the All-Star Draft begins Thursday, March 4th 8PM ET on TNT, where the teams are assorted and will be competing come All-Star Weekend on Sunday, March 7th.

Today marks the day in which we honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and all of his accomplishments and influence regarding the civil rights of minorities through an era of civil disobedience. With that we look into some of the must-see games in store on this day.

The Battle of the Up and Coming: Suns vs. Grizzlies

To kick things off we have a match-up between Devin Booker and the Suns up against Ja Morant and the Grizzlies. The Suns have been performing exceptionally thus far with an overall record of 7-4 with their new editions, most notably Chris Paul. Also with a healthy Deandre Ayton in the rotation the Suns are very much looking like a team to look out for as the season progresses. On the opposing side, the Grizzlies have gotten their franchise guard back after sustaining an ankle sprain late December. Morant seems to be getting back in to the swing of things after getting a win previously against the Philadelphia 76ers and hope to continue to use this momentum going forward.  The Grizzlies are currently a .500 team and hope to continue to build upon that going into tonight.

The Beast in the East: Bucks vs. Nets

Both the media and fans alike have been buzzing this past week due to the recent blockbuster trade that sent former Rockets SG James Harden to the Nets alongside Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. Although Irving has a questionable return due to COVID-19 related reasons, this match-up nonetheless is going to be a narrative throughout the course of this season being which team will come out on top out of the East. It would seem that Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks have picked up where they left off last regular season, already securing the first spot thus far. The Bucks have been playing up to the standard that we’d expect going into this season, with Giannis doing Giannis things and other notable players like Khris Middleton and Jrue Holiday alongside him. On the opposing side however is a team that can no longer be taken lightly this season, especially after this past week. It’s no longer news that the Brooklyn Nets have acquired James Harden, and with only a single game under his belt in a Nets’ uniform, the league has already taken notice to just how scary this team will be. The Nets had a big enough narrative going into this season, with the returns of Durant and Irving after recovering from injuries, but now said narrative has become just how good will the Brooklyn Nets be.

Old Rivalries, New Faces: Warriors vs. Lakers

It’s been what feels like a very long time since we’ve seen LeBron vs. Steph and the Warriors narrative, particularly since LeBron’s exit from Cleveland some years ago. But those battles carry on to this day, although the scenery has changed since that time. The Warriors are in a place in which they’re still trying to iron out some of the kinks that they might have thus far into the early season. Steph Curry has shown flashes of his MVP days, having to remind some just how good he is. With Klay Thompson unfortunately out with a knee injury for the season, the Warriors have shown signs of life as legit contenders looking back to their recent comeback victory against the Los Angeles Clippers. However, today they face an old friend and rival in LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers. Like the Warriors, the Lakers have many new faces on their roster this year as well. This hasn’t seemed to slow them down however, being the first in their conference thus far. Over the off-season, many have debated whether or not the roster moves they made was ultimately beneficial for the team, and has seemed to pay off through the first 14 games. They hope to continue their dominance going into tonight with James and AD leading the charge.

We are less than 24 hours away from the season’s Tip-Off, and with that we are wrapping up our team breakdowns with the very exciting Southeast Division with many new faces that are must-see television.

____________________________________________

1. Atlanta Hawks (Finished Last Season 20-47, 14th Seed)

2020 Offseason Acquisitions:

  • Danilo Gallinari, SF/PF (free agency)
  • Rajon Rondo, PG (free agency)
  • Tony Snell, SG/SF (traded from Detroit)
  • Bogdan Bodanovic (free agency)
  • Solomon Hill (free agency)

2020 Key Losses:

  • Dewayne Dedmon (traded to Detroit)

Roster and Depth Chart

  • PG: Trae Young, Rajon Rondo, Kris Dunn, Brandon Goodwin, Bogdan Bogdanovic
  • SG: Bogdan Bogdanovic, Kevin Huerter, Cam Reddish, Kris Dunn, Tony Snell
  • SF: De’Andre Hunter, Cam Reddish, Kris Dunn, Tony Snell, Danilo Gallinari
  • PF: John Collins, Danilo Gallinari, De’Andre Hunter, Solomon Hill, Onyeka Okongwu
  • C: Clint Capela, Onyeka Okongwu, Bruno Fernando, John Collins, Nathan Knight

Strengths:

  • Trae Young. It goes without saying that the third-year All-Star caliber PG is on a major upswing based off his performances season’s past. It seems like more times than naught that we see Young with highlight clips on Instagram or ESPN’s Top 10 on a regular basis, whether it be from his ability to shoot from anywhere on the court or showcasing his ball on a string handle on unsuspecting defenders. It’s only right to assume that he’s more than capable than keeping up such a high level of play, if not even more than we’ve seen thus far.

  • Offensive Weapons. When taking a look at the Hawks depth chart for this season, the argument can definitely be made that the organization has made some major improvements offensively off the bench with names like Bogdanovic and Gallinari in the mix. The youth on this team also has a lot of promise. With De’Andre Hunter and Cam Reddish being some of the few young faces having gotten their feet wet heading into their second year’s in the league, they too, alongside Trae Young will be much more comfortable in the NBA.

Weaknesses:

  • Hawks’ Defense. It has been pretty apparent that the Hawks had many things that needed adjusting in order for the team’s success to rise going into the new season, and it remains to be seen if they’ll be able to increase their defensive capabilities. Despite having defensive anchors John Collins and Clint Capela guarding the paint, the biggest question lies along the perimeter. Although there have been glimpses of solid defensive showings throughout the course of last season, the Hawk’s should be determined in being able to disrupting opposing offenses on a consistent basis.

Record Prediction: 33-39.

____________________________________________

2. Orlando Magic (Finished Last Season 33-40, 8th Seed)

2020 Offseason Acquisitions:

  • Jonathan Issac, PF/C (re-signed)
  • Markelle Fultz, PG/SG (re-signed)
  • Cole Anthony, PG/SG (draft)

2020 Key Losses:

  • N/A

Roster and Depth Chart:

  • PG: Markelle Fultz, Cole Anthony, Michael Carter-Williams, Karim Mane, Jordan Bone
  • SG: Evan Fournier, Terrence Ross, Michael Carter-Williams, Cole Anthony, Dwayne Bacon
  • SF: James Ennis III, Dwayne Bacon, Terrence Ross,  Michael Carter-Williams, Evan Fournier
  • PF: Aaron Gordon, Chuma Okeke, Al-Farouq Aminu, Gary Clark, James Ennis III
  • C: Nikola Vucevic, Khem Birch, Mo Bamba, Chuma Okeke, Gary Clark

Strengths:

  • Consistency. Despite being an organization with no major standout players, the Magic have been consistently making trips to the Playoffs in season’s past. The players that they do have, however, have been key in their success and it would seem that the Magic are opting in to stick with what they have, with players like Aaron Gordon, Markelle Fultz, Nikola Vucevic, and Evan Fournier becoming household names in Orlando. And ultimately if this team is able to progress and get better together there’s no reason why they Magic can’t make a deeper run in the Playoffs.

Weaknesses:

  • No “Go-to” Option. It seems pretty counterintuitive to say that the Magic have been having success without standout players then immediately saying that they have no “Superstar” on their team, and that would be true, but it has to be said that the teams in this league for the most part have that #1 option that they look towards to be the leader of their roster. From what can be observed from seasons past, the Magic haven’t really had something of that nature. It should also be said that this doesn’t ensure turbulence for them, but having that type of player is vital to have if/when trouble does come their way.

Record Prediction: 36-36.

____________________________________________

3. Miami Heat (Finished Last Season 44-29, 5th Seed)

2020 Offseason Acquisitions:

  • Avery Bradley, SG

2020 Key Losses:

  • Jae Crowder, SF/PF

Roster and Depth Chart:

  • PG: Goran Dragic, Kendrick Nunn, Jimmy Butler, Tyler Herro, Avery Bradley
  • SG: Duncan Robinson, Tyler Herro, Avery Bradley, Jimmy Butler, Andre Iguodala
  • SF: Jimmy Butler, Andre Iguodala, Maurice Harkless, Avery Bradley, Duncan Robinson
  • PF: Maurice Harkless, Meyers Leonard, Kelly Olynyk, Precious Achiuwa, Andre Iguodala
  • C: Bam Adebayo, Kelly Olynyk, Meyers Leonard, Precious Achiuwa, Chris Silva

Strengths:

  • Jimmy Butler. After last season’s Playoff run leading all the way up to the NBA Finals with Jimmy “Buckets” Butler at the head of it all, anyone would be remiss to not mention his ability to lead a team. After bouncing around the league for a couple of seasons, it seems that Butler has found a home in South Beach and is more ready than ever to take another shot at the NBA Championship.

  • Roster Depth. Looking back at last season, we’ve learned that the Miami Heat have threats everywhere in the scoring department with Duncan Robinson and Tyler Herro showing that they’re very comfortable under the bright lights going into their rookie years. The Heat have also scouted even more talent in Precious Achiuwa and KZ Okpala (who’s on a 2-way contract). They’ve also managed to blend in solid veteran role players with Avery Bradley and Andre Iguodala to help defensively but more so leading the younger guys.

Weaknesses:

  • Team Health. Like any team in the league, the injury bugs strikes at any given time throughout the season, and unfortunately for the Heat it hit in the midst of the NBA Finals. Although Dragic and Adebayo have had some time now to recover from their injuries, there is always chance for a re-injury (knock on wood) or for another player on their roster to go down.

Record Prediction: 38-34.

4. Charlotte Hornets (Finished 23-42 Last Season, 10th Seed)

2020 Offseason Acquisitions:

  • Gordon Hayward (trade)
  • LaMelo Ball (draft)

2020 Key Losses:

  • Nicolas Batum (free agency)

Roster and Depth Chart:

  • PG: Devonte Graham, LaMelo Ball, Terry Rozier, Malik Monk, Cody Martin
  • SG: Terry Rozier, Caleb Martin, Malik Monk, Cody Martin, Devonte Graham
  • SF: Gordon Hayward, Miles Bridges, Cody Martin, Caleb Martin, Jalen McDaniels
  • PF: P.J. Washington, Jalen McDaniels, Miles Bridges, Gordon Hayward
  • C: Cody Zeller, Bismack Biyombo, P.J. Washington, Vernon Carey Jr., Nick Richards

Strengths:

  • Roster Changes. Last year there were many glimpses of what could be a solid Hornets team, and throughout the offseason, the organization may have been able to make some key additions to the team to propel them to a more competitive team. With Gordon Hayward coming from Boston and LaMelo Ball getting drafted by Charlotte, the team has gained some interest potential that they can potentially reach.

Weaknesses:

  • Roster Depth. Although with the additions of Hayward and Ball are solid acquisitions, the question bares whether or not it’s enough to put them in a position to contend in the Playoffs in what is becoming a very strong Eastern Conference.

Record Prediction: 24-48.

____________________________________________

5. Washington Wizards (Finished Last Season 25-47, 9th Seed)

2020 Offseason Acquisitions:

  • Russell Westbrook PG (traded from Houston)

2020 Key Losses:

  • John Wall PG (traded to Houston)

Roster and Depth Chart:

  • PG: Russell Westbrook, Raul Neto, Ish Smith, Cassius Winston, Troy Brown Jr.
  • SG: Bradley Beal, Jerome Robinson, Troy Brown Jr., Garrison Matthews, Raul Neto
  • SF: Deni Avdija, Issac Bonga, Troy Brown Jr., Garrison Matthews, Jerome Robinson
  • PF: Davis Bertans, Rui Hachimura, Mortiz Wagner, Deni Avdija, Troy Brown Jr.
  • C: Thomas Bryant, Robin Lopez, Mortiz Wagner, Anzjes Pasecniks, Rui Hachimura

Strengths:

  • Russell Westbrook. Although Wizards’s fans lost household name and perennial All-Star John Wall this past offseason, they’ve received what might just be a breath of fresh air in Russell Westbrook. Also despite the comparison’s between the two players that some have made, both Wizards’ fans as well as the organization should be excited to be getting a point guard of equal or higher caliber back after being without John Wall in season’s past due to injury. Now that Westbrook is in the mix, the Wizards are set to get back to old ways, that is making the Playoffs and being a contender for the Championship. This is in no way, shape, or form a knock on John Wall, however, if anything it’s truly a testament to his impact on the team when he’s on the floor versus when he’s not. But now the Wizards have a former League MVP in their corner, which could potentially set them up success and perhaps even a deep run into the post season.
  • Bradley Beal. Bradley Beal is easily one of the most underrated players in this league today, after being made apparent by getting snubbed in the All-Star selections several times. This however has not slowed Beal down, perhaps even driving him even further towards the recognition he deserves. Surely he finds himself in a position that can help him do so, now alongside Russell Westbrook as stated above. Beal has shown that he can take over games and now that he has more help he can definitely find more than just individual success going into this season.

Weaknesses:

  • Team Cohesion/Chemistry. Although it may be the opinion of some whether from fans or former teammates that Russell Westbrook is the type of player that people love to have in their locker room, there may be some turbulence with the team figuring out how he can fit in to the rest of the roster and vice versa. NBA fans saw some of said turbulence in Houston with Westbrook and Harden trying to figure out how to run their offense. Unfortunately this could still be the case potentially in Washington if things don’t work out.

Record Prediction: 37-35.

SR – Playoff Preview: The Western Conference’s Final Four Teams

SR – Playoff Preview: The Western Conference’s Final Four Teams

Featured

Now with both series’ locked in with last nights Game 7 victory for the Houston Rockets, we proceed with the NBA Playoffs with the Semi-Finals. Having the respective Los Angeles teams advancing in strong fashions, we have both their opponents having both coming off 7 game series, leaving us with only the top 4 teams standing — Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, Denver Nuggets, Houston Rockets — so from this point on we continue the battle for the Conference Finals and so on.

And with all that being said, we rank our remaining four teams, speculating how they will fare approaching the next round.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________

Western Conference Team Breakdowns

1. Los Angeles Lakers (52-19, 1st in West, Won First Round vs. POR 4-1) – After dropping the first game in a fairly shocking manner against Damian Lillard and the Portland Trailblazers, the Lakers came back strong the remainder of the series, winning the next four in convincing fashions, being the firsts to punch their ticket to the next round in the Western Conference. It seemed like the Lakers needed a bit of a wake-up call heading into the first game, considering them having a 2-4 record in the bubble all despite being the #1 seeded team. Once they received said wake-up call, we saw some stellar performances from LeBron James and Anthony Davis leading their team to the series win.

A valiant and very commendable effort from the Trailblazers, however. They managed to earn their spot to participate in the Playoffs, and make a statement among the league with solid contributions from multiple players such as Jusuf Nurkic, C.J. McCollum, Carmelo Anthony, and of course Damian Lillard.

However, the pure size and talent on the Lakers roster could not be contained so easily, with both L.A. stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis getting the job done in all facets of the game. LeBron walked away from the series averaging a triple-double, on 27.4 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 10.2 assists a game on an outstanding 60% shooting while Davis averaged 29.8 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 4.2 assists on an equally impressive 57% shooting. Davis was able to almost do anything he wanted on the floor, whether in the catch and shoot or off the dribble, being an absolute nightmare for defending bigs.

The two were able to score and distribute to their teammates, which is something that needs to be highlighted when discussing LeBron James. James had a 54.8 assist percentage, meaning a little over half the passes he made led to a score for the Lakers. This breed of basketball is hard to stop when you have a whole team playing in rhythm within the offense. Another key component to the Lakers’ success thus far is their efficiency on the boards. Over the course of the 5-game series, the Lakers grabbed 242 total rebounds versus the Blazers’ 214, but other than that, the Lakers had a 27.3 Offensive Rebound % versus the Blazers’ 21.4. With some of the most notable bigs in years past on the Lakers roster with Dwight Howard, Anthony Davis, and Javale McGee, it comes as no surprise that they’d have a competitive edge against most other organizations regarding the rebounding category.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________

2. Los Angeles Clippers (49-23, 2nd in West, Won First Round vs. DAL 4-2) – This year’s reigning Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard had a hard fought series, but ultimately prevailed against the Dallas Mavericks alongside Paul George and crew. It’d take awhile for the Clippers to truly get the ball rolling against Luka Doncic and the Mavs, going back and forth through 4-games, ending the series in the next two after being tied up two a piece. The first four games were fairly tight, the victor only to be determined within late in the 4th or even overtime. It should also be said that the Mavericks were playing shorthanded, after losing Kristaps Porzingis 3 games in and Doncic battling an ankle injury throughout the course of the series. There is no taking away from the Clippers, however, keeping the foot on the gas and pulling out of the series to move on to the semi-finals.

A big thing when talking about the Los Angeles Clippers is the sheer amount of depth this team has, something that they accrued throughout the course of the season with additions like Reggie Jackson, Joakim Noah, and Marcus Morris, all who have made major impacts leading up to this point. This just added even more to what the Clippers organization already had heading into the year alongside Kawhi and PG, with names like Landry Shamet, Montrezl Harrell, and reigning 6th Man of the Year Lou Williams. This depth really made themselves known this series, contributing a considerable amount on both ends of the floor. This was also particularly helpful in games Paul George was having an off night.

As they progress throughout the Playoffs, we look to see if the Clippers are capable of maintaining such an offensive onslaught, walking out of the series against the Mavericks with an Offensive Rating of 122.3 versus the Mavs’ 113. Although everyone’s scouting reports for the Clippers has Kawhi Leonard and Paul George at the very top, teams also need to keep a close eye on the rest of the team, specifically Marcus Morris, who has shown to be very beneficial for the team, giving the Clippers another option on offense as well as a solid defender.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________

3. Denver Nuggets (46-27, 3rd in West, Won First Round vs. UTAH 4-3) – The Nuggets had a long fought battle in the opening series of the NBA Playoffs against the Jazz, coming out victorious with Jamal Murray leading the way. The Nuggets, despite being third in their conference, to me always feel like an underdog in the Playoffs simply due to the lack of the big names like a LeBron James or a Steph Curry on their team. This in no way is discrediting the Nuggets, however, in fact quite the opposite. They’ve managed to assemble a team through drafting and development and be a legit contender thus far into the Playoffs. Of course you have the usual suspects for the Nuggets leading the way in Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic, but it’s imperative to acknowledge the impact that Michael Porter Jr. and Jerami Grant have made in that first series.

Finally being able to get on the floor this year, Michael Porter Jr. has proven to the league that he belongs. Through 7 games he averaged 12 points and 7 rebounds 45% shooting. Additionally, after being traded away from the Thunder this past season, Jerami Grant has only gotten better through his young career. Grant averaged 11.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1 block a game. It has been great to see the development of these younger players, growing into legitimate threats on both ends of the floor. Nuggets fans can only hope that this remains consistent moving on throughout the Playoffs.

Another thing that Nuggets fans hope to prove consistent is the absolute tear Jamal Murray has been so far this Playoffs. Murray was unreal last series, averaging 31.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 6.3 assists on an impressive 55% shooting. It remains to be seen whether or not Murray will keep up these kinds of numbers, but would definitely prove beneficial heading into their series against the Clippers.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________

4. Houston Rockets (44-28 , 4th in West, Won First Round vs. OKC 4-3) – Similarly to the Nuggets, the Rockets came out a hard fought series winning game 7 against the Thunder. The Rockets have been on a roller coaster so far this Playoffs and we’re just now past the first round. The series against the Thunder quite literally could’ve gone either way, with the entirety of the series coming down to a single possession in the Thunders’ hands, ultimately thwarted by a clutch defensive effort by none other than James Harden. This punched their ticket as the last team to advance to the semi-finals.

We’ve discussed before that the Rockets would be taking on a new school of thought when they traded away Clint Capela, opting in for a small ball approach to the game. Although deemed successful, it was no easy feat. Additionally, the Rockets Russell Westbrook come back into the line-up after missing the first four. Although providing a solid contribution for the Rockets, it was James Harden who led the team to victory, averaging 29.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 8 assists on 47% shooting. So far we’ve learned that the “live by the three die by the three” mindset is in fact viable, but things only get more challenging from this point on.

The Rockets have been getting solid overall production on the offensive from a lot of players on the team, from Russell Westbrook. Jeff Green,Danuel House, Eric Gordon, and Robert Covington, all averaging double digit points through the series. For the Rockets, however, offense isn’t the issue. They’ll need to be even more so locked in on the defense end in hopes of progressing through the Playoffs from this point on.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________

Western Conference Match Ups: Semi-Finals

#1 Los Angeles Lakers vs. #4 Houston Rockets

I’d like to describe this series as a David versus Goliath story. Not in the sense that one team has insurmountable odds pit against them, but more so the schemes of small ball versus traditional basketball. Two very different schools of thought at play. The Rockets will most likely find difficulty in the paint on both ends of the floor, while the Lakers need to focus on locking down the perimeter. The Rockets’ tallest players that they’ve been playing at the Center position thus far are Jeff Green and Robert Covington listed at 6’8″ and 6’7″, respectively. The trouble their lies for the Rockets is that for the Lakers, that is the roughly the average height of their Small Forwards, with LeBron James, Markieff Morris, and Kyle Kuzma. As previously stated it is imperative the Rockets find a way to lock down the Lakers bigs before things turn into old school bully ball with a splash of Showtime Lakers. On the other side of things, the Lakers will have to prove to be active on the perimeter defensively, limiting the three point shot and contesting those that get taken. The very thought of having to constantly run shooters off the perimeter possession after possession is draining, and with that the Lakers are going to have to remain disciplined to stick to their plans defensively. If either team can get the edge on the defensive end, it will surely open themselves up on the offensive end, something that both teams surely want to get going early in this series.

Prediction: Lakers Win Series 4-2

____________________________________________________________________________________________________

#2 Los Angeles Clippers vs. #3 Denver Nuggets

I know I just used this theme for the other series, the Clippers vs. Nuggets is also a David and Goliath situation, more so in the traditional sense. Fans and critics league wide have the Clippers making a deep run in the Playoffs, and the Denver Nuggets are just the next obstacle in the way for their path to a Championship. This isn’t insinuating that the Clippers are going to win the series, however. I’d be remiss to count out Denver and the effort that they’ve put forth both this season as well as years past. The Nuggets were a household name in the Playoff Picture from 2003-2013 and have recently have found themselves returning to the Playoffs since 2018, typically seeded highly. With the momentum that the Nuggets have after their Game 7 victory against the Jazz, they’ll surely be bringing everything they have while facing the Clippers. But it will take just that to beat Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, and the Clippers, everything you have. As previously discussed, on top of having two of the biggest names in the league, the sheer depth that the Clippers have will prove to be quite the challenge for the underdog Nuggets.

Prediction: Clippers Win 4-2

Philadelphia 76ers Part Ways with HC Brett Brown (A Quick Glance at the Future for the Process)

Philadelphia 76ers Part Ways with HC Brett Brown (A Quick Glance at the Future for the Process)

Featured

After their game 4 loss against the Boston Celtics completing the sweep, the Philadelphia 76ers organization had soon made the decision to part ways with Head Coach Brett Brown, believing that it is time to take a new direction in hopes of taking the team further than its current state.

Basketball fans were left to wonder what’s to happen with the roster, which was soon answered by 76ers GM Elton Brand discussing how he simply wants to build a better team around their household names in Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid. As I’m sure many fans were questioning the decision to part ways with Brown, the 76ers just may be making the right moves, as recent history has proven to us. As of the year 2015, the 3 teams that have won the NBA Championship (Golden State Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Toronto Raptors) were all led by first year coaches in Tyronn Lue, Nick Nurse, and the most prolific of the three in Steve Kerr. Now with that being said, simply changing a Head Coach may not instantly propel the 76ers into the NBA Finals, but surely is a step in a direction that may be needed for the organization, as told by history itself. With this we wait in anticipation for any future news regarding the 76ers at this time as the Playoff Race continues in the NBA.
