Humble in personality, modest in nature, but boy does his game speak loudly. Damian Lillard, former 6th overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft, has garnered a reputation for hitting big shots in big moments. Most recently, Lillard shattered the hopes of Thunder fans just last year, when he drained a 37-foot series-ending buzzer beater in the first round of the playoffs. Lillard’s post-game celebration dogpile with his teammates instantly became a meme. Prior to that, in just his second year in the league (2013-14), Damian Lillard would hit a long-range 3-pointer to win another playoff series, this time against the Houston Rockets. That was the day Lillard put the NBA on notice. The 2012-13 NBA Rookie of the Year was just getting started.

Damian Lillard didn’t come from a “blue blood” program. He starred at Weber State – a mid-major. Even with forgoing his senior season at Weber State, Lillard still finished his college career with 1,934 points, good for second in Weber State history. Damian also finished as the No. 5 scorer in Big Sky Conference history. Throughout his time at Weber State, Damian was outfitted in Adidas apparel, uniforms, and sneakers. This could’ve improved his chances of him signing with the three stripes right form college (it definitely didn’t hurt). Damian’s counterpart, Derrick Rose, also signed with Adidas after sporting the three stripes during his lone college year at Memphis.

Damian Lillard would go onto sign with Adidas right from the jump. He was all-in with the three stripes before his rookie year even began. For the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons Damian would sport numerous Adidas models on-court before he got his own signature line. Lillard would sport new basketball silhouettes like the Crazylight Boost, Crazyquick, and numerous iterations from the D-Rose signature line. He would also throw it back every once in awhile with old school Adidas basketball models such as the Crazy 8 and the Top Ten 2000. In 2014 Adidas would sign Damian Lillard to a massive extension, a deal that could earn the superstar up to $100 million over a span of 10 years. Adidas officially put all their eggs in the basket on Lillard and looked to make him the future face of the brand.

Less than a year after Damian Lillard inked his massive deal with Adidas, his first signature sneaker would debut in February of 2015. The D Lillard 1’s retailed at a consumer-friendly $105 and became available in a plethora of color options. Fast forward to the 2019-20 NBA season and Damian Lillard has 6 signature sneakers under his belt. The most recent one, the Dame 6, officially released in November of 2019. Adidas has impressively kept the price point of the Dame line low, with the 6’s costing only $110 – $120. This feat is hard to do these days with a signature sneaker line, but a breath of fresh air when other brands are charging $150 – $200 for their athletes’ sneakers. The $200 million dollar man, “The Beard”, the 2017-18 NBA Most Valuable Player – whatever you want to call him, James Harden seems to be winning in life. The Houston Rockets shooting guard is a top-tier NBA talent and one of the most prolific scorers in the league. Harden is known for his flashy moves, most notably his step-back jumpers. Kids across the country try to emulate Harden’s step-back three-pointer in their local gyms and driveways. Since the summer of 2015, James Harden has been doing those signature moves wearing the Three Stripes.

In August of 2015 James Harden officially agreed to a deal with Adidas worth $200 million. The deal was contracted for 13 years and even rivaled his salary that the Houston Rockets are paying him. Harden quickly catapulted himself to be the face of a brand, with a signature shoe imminent. Adidas went big when they introduced Harden to the Three Stripe family, and I mean BIG. Adidas literally went to James Harden’s house and delivered a truckload of what seemed like hundreds of sneakers for their new superstar. From Pro Models, to Superstars, to Ultraboosts, to basketball shoes – Adidas hooked James Harden up from the jump.

For the 2015-16 season, James Harden would dawn player exclusive mock-ups of the newest on-court offerings Adidas had. Harden would start the year in some sleek CrazyLight Boost 2015’s and then move onto the CrazyLight Boost 2.5’s by season’s end. Models like these would just have to hold James Harden over until he got his own signature sneaker, which would happen in the fall of 2016.

James Harden would officially unveil his first signature sneaker with Adidas, the Harden Vol. 1, just prior to the start of the 2016-17 season. Now, over three years later, Harden is on his fourth shoe of his own and presumably a fifth one coming fall of 2020. The Adidas Harden Vol. 4 looked to be his best one yet, being a selection of many players during this season. Colleges like Louisville, Kansas, Arizona State, Miami, Nebraska, Mississippi State, Indiana, and Texas A&M all could be seen sporting player exclusive versions of the Adidas Harden line these past few years. Similar to that of other NBA players’ signature lines, Adidas and Harden offer “take-down” versions of his shoes and off the court options as well. Whether that be changing up the materials for a lighter feel or altering the uppers for a more casual look, Adidas is giving the Harden line both on-court and off-court appeal. Obviously Christmas-themed signature basketball sneakers are/were the ‘creme de la creme’ of specialty colorways in the NBA. Not too far behind the Christmas packs, are the Easter packs that brands used to put out just a few years ago. At SneakerReporter we compiled a list of the Top 10 Easter-themed Basketball Sneakers. There was some criteria that had to be met in order for a shoe to be considered for the list. First, the shoe has to be a signature basketball silhouette – brand does not matter. It has been almost three weeks since the last regular season NBA game was played. All of us are looking around for not only the NBA, but sports in general, to fill this void in our lives. The NBA regular season was due to end in mid-April but now it’s looking like it won’t pick back up until at least June. Even when/if the season starts back up it’s looking like games will unfortunately be played without fans in attendance. In the meantime, during our respective COVID-19 quarantines, we can only hope for what’s to come and reminisce on what has already happened.

The Jordan XXXIV has been the unexpected hit of the 2019-20 NBA season so far. With young additions to the Jordan Brand family like Zion Williamson, Luka Doncic, Rui Hachimura, and Jayson Tatum, the Jumpman legacy looks to be in good hands for the coming years. The Jordan 34 has been the most well-received signature Jordan model since the 29’s. And just like that, the NBA season was haulted. Not even halfway through last week, the NBA decided to indefinitely postpone the 2019-20 season due to the continuing outbreak and fears of the coronavirus. Since then, notable players such as Rudy Gobert, Donovan Mitchell, and even Kevin Durant have been confirmed to have the virus. Teams across the league, not only in the NBA, but in all sports, are going through the process of having their players and staff tested. This current time without any sports being active is a situation none of us have faced in our entire lives. In the NBA some players like Zion Williamson, Kevin Love, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and even Mavs owner Mark Cuban, have stepped up to pay for numerous staff’s pay that work at their arenas where they play.

With only getting through a few NBA games last week, our normal list of the week’s top 15 sneakers had to be slimmed down to 5. We still wanted to bring you a list for week 21 because it looks as if no games at all (which also means no sneakers at all) will be played for the foreseeable future.
