BREAKING NEWS: Drew Brees Expected to Start on Sunday

BREAKING NEWS: Drew Brees Expected to Start on Sunday

Featured

The New Orleans Saints are one of the best teams in the NFC and their 6-1 record has earned them the respect of fans and the rest of the league. After starting the season 1-1, and losing starting quarterback Drew Brees halfway through their Week 2 loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

Backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater has won five straight games for them filling in for Brees. However, it seems that Bridgewater is headed back to the bench as ESPN’s Ed Werder and Dianna Rusini reported today:

The Saints were without running back Alvin Kamara in their 36-25 win over the Chicago Bears last week. Now, they could potentially have their whole offensive trio back on the field for their Week 8 matchup with the Arizona Cardinals.

For Brees, this is his chance to prove that the thumb injury won’t slow him down and that he can still perform at a high-level despite being 40 years old.

Many expected him to return following New Orleans’ Week 9 bye but he showed he was ready to go and he’ll be back on the field Sunday:

BREAKING NEWS: Michael Bennett Traded to the Dallas Cowboys

BREAKING NEWS: Michael Bennett Traded to the Dallas Cowboys

Featured

The New England Patriots aren’t done wheeling and dealing yet. After bringing in Mohamed Sanu and sending Josh Gordon to the IR (and he’ll likely be waived when he’s healthy again), they just let defensive end Michael Bennett go after he requested to be let go due to his dissatisfaction with his role in the Patriots defense. Bennett was sent to the Dallas Cowboys for a seventh-round pick that could potentially become a sixth-round pick in 2021 depending on the defensive end’s play.

Bennett was acquired by New England this offseason and many assumed he would be trying to fill the role that was vacated by Trey Flowers–who signed with the Detroit Lions in free agency this offseason. However, thanks to the play and versatility of the Patriots’ linebackers the team has been playing with less down linemen, oftentimes aligning in a 2-4-5 formation.

His frustration boiled over a couple of weeks ago when he got into an argument with New England’s defensive line coach, Brett Bielema, which resulted in his suspension for Week 7.

When asked about his return to the team on Wednesday Bennett said, “I didn’t take away nothing. I got suspended. Lost money. What am I supposed to take away from that? There’s no love lost. It’s just how it is.”

One day later he’s on to a new team. Without him, New England managed to shutout the New York Jets on the road so they are unlikely to see a big decline from the league’s best defense. In Dallas, he gives the Cowboys another pass rusher to help shore up a rotation that features DeMarcus Lawrence and Robert Quinn who left last week’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night with a rib injury.

Josh Gordon Unlikely to Finish Season With New England Patriots

Josh Gordon Unlikely to Finish Season With New England Patriots

Featured

During the New England Patriots Week 6 Thursday Night Football game against the New York Giants, wide receiver Josh Gordon went down awkwardly while trying to tackle a Giants defender on a fumble recovery. Gordon would miss the rest of that game and last week’s matchup against the New York Jets. Now, reports are that the Patriots are going to place him on IR.

With New England acquiring Mohamed Sanu for a second-round pick, and 2019 first-round pick N’Keal Harry designated to return by Week 9 at the earliest, Gordon’s time with the Patriots is likely over. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that the team will waive him when he’s healthy. The issue is believed to be bone bruises in both knees.

However, the injuries aren’t new. The incident against the Giants re-aggravated the injury. Gordon believes that he should be healthy within a couple weeks.

If he can return to health Gordon could be a late-season addition for a team with an eye towards getting him fully integrated ahead of the 2020 season.

Detroit Lions Place Kerryon Johnson on IR

Detroit Lions Place Kerryon Johnson on IR

Featured

The hits keep coming for the Detroit Lions. First, they had the referees snatch away what would’ve been a season-defining win against the Green Bay Packers. Then, they suffered another in-division loss this time at the hands of the Minnesota Vikings. Finally, news came out today that starting running back Kerryon Johnson will be put on IR.

When a player is placed on IR they are required to miss at least eight weeks so if he is able to return to the field it wouldn’t be until Week 16.

Before leaving their Week 7 loss, Johnson had totaled 308 yards and two touchdowns on 92 carries on the ground along with 126 yards and a touchdown on nine receptions this season.

The Lions were shaping up to be a legit threat in the NFC North but now they look likely to miss the playoffs entirely this season.
