Nike’s dedication to performance is held strong by their continued evolution. Thanks to their continually improving technology, the folks in Oregon once again press forward with their advancements in innovation. The Nike Air Zoom BB NXT is the future of the Nike Air.

“We now have athletes that are ‘positionless’ and generate the values of all positions on court. Within the NBA alone these positionless athletes face a grueling journey, starting with the offseason training, then preseason, and into the 82-game season, playoffs, Finals. Fatigue is the enemy and endurance is the goal,” says Ross Klein, Senior Creative Director for Nike Basketball footwear.

To reduce fatigue during critical moments, the BB NXT introduces a unified system of full-length Nike REACT foam, plate, and Nike Air Zoom pods that work in sync to provide superior impact protection and energy return. The Nike Air Zoom BB includes many revelatory changes in its construction.

A bit of exposed REACT foam under the heel serves to create a “soft and responsive” feel while a plate above the foam counteracts it with the appropriate rigidity. Under the ball of the foot are two Air Zoom that both absorb energy as well as provide responsiveness. The lightweight mesh used to form the upper is specifically crafted to offer support and durability to basketball players of any skill level or position. The plush tongue and padded collar top off the experience for added comfortability, the collar flares out adding a supportive notch for the Achilles tendon.

The Nike Air Zoom BB NXT releases in the Black/Green “Dangerous” colorway on July 25. The white “Rawthentic” colorway hits the streets and courts this September.

The “What The” Nike LeBron 17 is eye-catching

The “What The” Nike LeBron 17 is eye-catching

Featured

The “What the” series symbolizes a year of battles and a range of unique styles for a Nike signature athlete but with the truncated NBA season it feels like we have yet to see what the LeBron 17 really has tucked away. The What the LeBron 17 interpolates parts of some of the most memorable colorways the shoe has seen so far in an eye-popping hybrid. The left shoe is a decidedly darker hue interpolating the black toe box of the “Currency” colorway and the gray upper stemming from the “I Promise” colorway. The dark shoe is set off by a scarlet tongue embroidered with LeBron’s “More Than Athlete” mantra. The purple sole unit with it’s golden swoosh completes the understated but dynamic look.

The right shoe is equal parts vibrant and eclectic. The toe box is a vibrant green extrapolated from the alternate “Mr. Swackhammer ” colorway, the bright orange laces come inscribed with motivational phrases from the “I Promise” colorway, and it includes a lace lock as an homage to the Michael Jordan-inspired “Infrared” LeBron 17. The gum colored sole is the perfect neutral color to reign in the more wild shoe. This special colorway also includes the hangtags found on the iridescent “Future Air” LeBron 17. The insoles complete the details with their plaid coloring and “James family reunion” inscription. Included with the pack is a collection of patches to adhere to the tongue for extra flare.

The “What The” Nike LeBron 17 is set to drop soon.  The price is set to be $200

The Nike ‘Space Hippie’ Collection is Trash, literally

The Nike ‘Space Hippie’ Collection is Trash, literally

Featured

Ahead of what would have been the 2020 Olympics, Nike unveils their newest project in sustainability– the Space Hippie project. Built from what would have been waste from their own products, Nike is once again championing efforts for sustainability.  Instead of the dynamic names the Swoosh is known for the Space Hippie collection are simply numbered 01-04.

Each piece of every shoe was meticulously chosen with intense consideration towards its environmental impact. From the Space Waste yarns made of recycled plastic bottles, t-shirt and yarn scraps that make up the uppers to the Crater Foam, the colorful blend of foams and NikeGrind rubber that form the midsoles, the Space Hippie collection is the epitome of circular design.

While each shoe comes in the same grey, blue, and orange colorway and they contain the same recycled DNA, each shoe in the collection is quite different from the others. The 01 and 04 are alike in that they are low cut silhouettes that use a traditional lacing system but the 04 separates itself from the rest with its chunky sole and exclusive Black/Volt colorway.

The 02 and 03 lean more into the space theme with their futuristic design. Space Hippie 02 is a high cut model laceless model with a large orange swoosh that extends from the toe to the ankle. The 03 is a high cut build fitted with the Nike FastFit technology seen on the Kobe AD Next FF making it perfect for the ethical hooper.  A fully recycled tee shirt will be included to complete the collection.

Space Hippie 01 ($130), Space Hippie 02 ($150), Space Hippie 03 ($180), and Space Hippie 04 ($130) will be available via the SNKRS app and select retailers on June 11.

NBA All-Star Weekend Releases

NBA All-Star Weekend Releases

Featured

NBA All-Star weekend is the brightest stage for signature sneakers. For decades hoopers have been pulling out heat exclusively for the big game, who can forget T-Mac pulling out the mismatched T-Mac 3s in 2004 or Nike’s interstellar themed pack in 2013? This All-Star weekend is set to be one of the biggest in recent days with a slew of releases flooding the streets.

Jordan Brand with it’s ironclad Chicago roots fittingly takes over the weekend with their ‘Unite’ pack and the Chicago collaborators collection. Featuring work from the legendary Virgil Abloh to the the rising multimedia brand Lyrical Lemonade, Jordan Brand is firing on all cylinders this year capping off their All-Star weekend with the first ever retro of the Nike Air Ship.

Though Jordan made be Windy City made, Jordan Brand isn’t the only company blazing the courts. Pusha and Dame whipped up a Dame 6 collaboration, New Balance joins forces with Joe Freshgoods and Don’t Be Mad for a pink-tinged Omn1 covered with unsmiling faces reflecting Kawhi’s unflappable demeanor. adidas even celebrates Chicago hero and former MVP Derrick Rose with a retro of his first signature in the colorway he wore during his first All-Star game.

Joe Freshgoods and New Balance reveal ‘No Emotions Are Emotions’ collection

Joe Freshgoods and New Balance reveal ‘No Emotions Are Emotions’ collection

Celebs

NBA All-Star is a historic time for on-court wear. From the “Big Bang” LeBrons to the “Galaxy” KD 4s, some of the most memorable kicks of All-Star weekend come on court. There may be debate over whether the year’s best All-Star kicks came on or off the court but they definitely come from this Joe Freshgoods x New Balance collaboration. Chicago native Joe Freshgoods has joined forces with New Balance for All-Star Weekend. Alongside a pair of incredible colorways of the New Balance 992 and Kawhi’s Omn1s, Joe’s Don’t Be Mad imprint collides with New Balance for the “No Emotions are Emotions” collection.

The tonal 992s could be seen as Valentine’s Day inspired since it falls during All-Star weekend but the shades of red are actually meant to mimic the anatomy of the heart, even coming with an extra pair of blue laces seemingly inspired by veins. The shoes tie into Joe’s passion for tie-dye with the colorful sole insert. The ‘No Emotions Are Emotions’ mantra comes full circle on the New Balance Omn1s that Kawhi has already been spotted hooping in. The gradient from tan to pink is as subtle as the stoic ‘emoji’ style faces that harken to Joe’s own smiley face logo, the Omn1s reflect both Kawhi’s demeanor on the floor and Joe’s approach to work. In an interview with Complex, Joe explained the meaning saying,

It’s pretty much for people in a world that don’t speak loudly about what they’re going to do. They just do it. You know what I’m saying? I think sometimes people are known for always having to be loud and vocal to get a point across. So I think, what ‘No Emotions Are Emotions’ means to me it’s just like, we’re not going to talk about what we’re going to do. We’re not going to create a scene. We just going to get it done. And that’s kind of my whole narrative around All-Star Weekend. It’s just like, I’m going to just keep showing these brands, these companies, that we are just gonna get it done.”

The collection does more than just get it done. The shades of red and pink spill over into the gear as well giving a vibrancy to the collection, it even features a ‘Don’t Be Mad’ Kawhi Leonard jersey and tie-dye pants resonate the same energy as the 992s. The New Balance x Joe Freshgoods collection will only be available in Chicago during All-Star weekend. Bring your tents if you plan on copping this impeccable collaboration.
