25. Chris Jones

Team: Kansas City Chiefs

Position: DT

Experience: 4 Years

After three years at Mississippi State, Junior Chris Jones forgave his senior season to enter the 2016 NFL Draft. He was selected in the second round (37th overall) by the San Francisco 49ers but was dealt on draft night to the Kansas City Chiefs in a package that included Jones, a 4th rounder and a 6th rounder in exchange for the Chiefs first round pick Joshua Garnett. The 6’6” 310 lbs. Defensive Tackle has steadily improved throughout his short three years in the league so far.

In his 2016 rookie season, Jones played in all 16 games, starting in 11 of those contests. He finished his rookie campaign with 17 solo and 11 assisted tackles, also contributing 5 tackles for loss (2 sacks). Jones dramatically increased his production in his sophomore season, when he accounted for 32 total tackles, 4 forced fumbles and 6.5 sacks. Jones also displayed brilliance in the passing game, as he had 7 passes deflected and 1 INT. The Chiefs were middle of the pack defensively in 2017, heavily relying on their ability to create turnovers.

2018 was tough for the Chiefs on defense, as they ranked 31st in total yards/game, passing yards/game and rushing yards/attempt. Along with this, they also gave up a league worst 419 first downs to opponents. Some of this disappointment can be attributed to game flow, as KC was leading in a majority of their games. Defenses playing with a lead tend to play preventative schemes, allowing for yardage to be accumulated by the opposition from the 20-20 yard lines. This scheme relies on sacks and turnovers to slow down the attack. KC ended the season ranked 4th in fumbles and 9th in interceptions. Giving up yardage can be misleading on defense, as the New England Patriots have been successful for years with a ‘bend don’t break’ strategy.

Jones turned into a new monster in 2018, as he finally gained nationwide recognition for his incredible play on the interior. For the third time in three years, Jones was able to suit up for all 16 games. Jones topped his first two years in almost every statistical category in 2018. He accounted for 40 total tackles (35 solo) along with 19 tackles for loss and 29 QB hits! Jones also ranked 3rd in the NFL with 15.5 sacks, trailing only Aaron Donald and J.J. Watt with 20.5 and 16.0 respectively.

2018 was just the start for Chris Jones. With a young and improving defense around him, Jones is primed for another standout season and the start of a superstar career. The  addition of new Defensive Coordinator Steve Spagnuolo will be vital in changing the culture of this unit, as Spagnuolo has championship pedigree from his time in New York with the Giants. Jones’s health has yet to be a concern so far, hopefully foreshadowing years to come. Can Jones take the next step into superstardom in 2019? His progression over his first three years says so.

2019 overall number 1 pick, Zion Williamson is probably the most heralded NBA draftee since the King himself. After bursting through his PG 2s during his time at Duke the world at large wondered where the 6’7’, 285 pound phenom would land in the realm of sneakers. For months, there was a bidding war for the sneaker services of the 19 year old wunderkind. Well, wonder no more as Zion has joined the roster of one of the most storied brands in history–Jordan Brand. From being “the next LeBron” to signing with the GOAT, Zion has big shoes to fill and with choice to join legends like Ray Allen, Carmelo Anthony, Russell Westbrook, and Maya Moore it shows that Zion has no fear of being in anyone’s shadow.

Jordan Brand has been making big waves with the signings this summer further diversifying their already vaunted roster including Redskins QB Dwayne Haskins. In addition to Haskins, Jordan Brand added WNBA All-Star Kia Nurse, New York Liberty guard Asia Durr, Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum, and the Washington Wizards #9 pick in the 2019 draft, Rui Hachimura.

Jordan Brand has prioritized the future with it’s young core of signings setting them up to dominate the future. Tatum joining the Jordan Brand comes as a bit of a surprise after Nike selected him to debut the Nike Adapt BB thus pegging him as the future of the Swoosh. With Rui Hachimura, one of Japan’s biggest stars and the first Japanese-born player to be drafted in the NBA, Jordan Brand is looking to tighten their global grip on the market.

Which of these young talents do you think will be the first to have their own silhouette?

NBA 2K20 Brings the WNBA to the Courts

NBA 2K20 Brings the WNBA to the Courts

Featured

Each and every year we clamor for the newest versions of NBA 2K and the various updates. NBA is virtually down to a science with its tight and specific controls meaning that the gameplay updates are usually just roster updates and enhanced graphics but NBA 2K is taking it to the next level.

With their next installment of NBA 2k20 set to drop next month, 2K is finally debuting the WNBA bringing some of my favorite superstars to the game. In a recent reveal video, Seattle Storm star Breanna Stewart and LA Sparks star Candace Parker talked about what the WNBA means to them and why it’s so important to bring them to the court.

This isn’t the ladies’ first time on the court as they were featured in a limited capacity in NBA Live 19 only appearing playable in the Quickplay portion of the game. Hopefully, we’ll be able to see the WNBA take a bigger stage in games. Either way, I’m fully prepared to give buckets with A’ja Wilson and the Aces. Who want the smoke?

It’s lit! The Travis Scott x Air Jordan 6 is coming soon

It’s lit! The Travis Scott x Air Jordan 6 is coming soon

The Jordan Brand and Travis Scott partnership continues to pay dividends. After releasing the acclaimed Jordan 4s, 33s, the reverse swooshed 1s and their low equivalent, Cactus Jack and His Airness are primed to launch another sure-fire heater next month.

Dressed in the same Olive as his Cactus Jack 33s, Travis’ Air Jordan 6 collab combines the cactus-esque colorway with one of the greatest Jordans ever made. Covered in the aforementioned Medium Olive, these kicks top it off with a translucent, glow-in-the-dark outsole and 3M detailing around the special stash pocket located at the ankle. Red Nike branding appears on the back of the left shoe whereas Cactus Jack branding shines on the right. The Air Jordan 6 is my favorite shoe of all-time so this pair is a must cop to me. Word on the street is that these are limited to around 60,000 pairs and will be priced at $250 when they drop on September 14th. Keep it locked for confirmation on these amazing kicks.

SneakerReporter NFL Top 30: #27 David Bakhtiari

SneakerReporter NFL Top 30: #27 David Bakhtiari

27. David Bakhtiari

Team: Green Bay Packers

Position: OT

Experience: 7 Years

David Bakhtiari comes in at the #27 spot on our  NFL SneakerReporter Top 30. The 6’4” 310 lbs. Offensive Tackle is simply the best the game has to offer heading into 2019. Bakhtiari was selected in the 4th round with the 109th overall pick by the Green Bay Packers. He has been a model of consistency and health, playing in all 16 regular season games in 4 of his first 6 years as a professional. The other two years he only missed 2 and 4 games with no concerning injuries. After injuries riddled him in his collegiate career at Colorado, he seems to be over such woes.

Bakhtiari captured the starting job right as he entered the league as a rookie. Left tackle is arguably the most important position on the offensive line, and having your Quarterback be Aaron Rodgers severely escalates the stakes. Bakhtiari has been very solid throughout the duration of his short career so far. As a rookie in 2013, Bakhtiari only surrendered 10 accepted penalties all year. He also helped Eddie Lacy rush for 1,178 Yards and capture NFL AP Offensive Rookie of the Year honors. The Packers finished in the Top 10 in Passing and Rushing in 2013 for the first time in a decade.

The next few years became more of the same, as Bahktiari continued to dominate in his position. Bakhtiari started every game in 2014, helping the Packers finish 1st in the league in scoring at 30.4 Pts/game. He was also the leader of an offensive line that gave up just nine sacks in the final eight games of the 2014 season, the second lowest over that span. Bakhtiari was in complete control of Rodgers blind side all of 2014, which assisted heavily in Rodgers capturing MVP honors that season.

Bakhtiari started all 16 games again in 2016 and collected his first AP All-Pro selection (first team). He became the first Green Bay Tackle to receive this honor since Forrest Gregg in 1967, playing for Vince Lombardi’s Packers. Bakhtiari wasn’t done in 2016, as he earned his first trip to the NFL Pro Bowl, having being named a first alternate and replacing the injured Jason Peters of Philadelphia. In the 28 games Bakhtiari played between 2017-2018, he only committed 7 accepted penalties.

Last year, Bakhtiari joined Forrest Gregg as the only two Green Bay Packers Tackles to earn Associated Press All-Pro Honors in consecutive seasons. It is without a doubt that David Bakhtiari is one of the top offensive linemen in the NFL today. Out of all offensive linemen, Bakhtiari claims the top spot in our SneakerReporter Top 30 Rankings as we count down the days to the 2019 season. With new coaching in place, the Green Bay offense looks to surge to new heights in big thanks to the protection of David Bakhtiari.
