Breaking News: Tyreek Hill Injury Update

Featured

Hill was sidelined for most of the week 1 match up versus the Jaguars after having to be carted off during the 1st half from an apparent shoulder injury.

He was taken to the local hospital after the game where they diagnosed him with a rare sternoclavicular joint injury. The Chiefs will be cautious as this is not a common injury, as Danny Amendola was the last player to sustain this injury back in 2012 when playing for the Rams.

Luckily for Chiefs fans, Hill was able to avoid the Injured Reserve list. The timetable for his return is set at 4-6 weeks. If Hill was designated to the IR, he would have to wait the mandatory 8 weeks before being cleared to return.

Kansas City travels to Oakland to take on the Raiders in week 2. Hill’s presence will be missed, so expect Kelce and Sammy Watkins to be the top targets of Mahomes. Along with this, rookie WR Mecole Hardman should get more snaps as well.

SR Fantasy Football Week 1: Winners and Losers

SR Fantasy Football Week 1: Winners and Losers

Featured

After an exciting first week of football, there are many takeaways to be had. Let’s take a closer look at players whose stock either jumped or fell.

Winners:

The Baltimore Ravens

Wow! What a performance by the Ravens in Miami …oh wait, Miami traded away their best players for a shot at Tua Tagovailoa in next years draft. Nevertheless, what the Ravens did yesterday to the Dolphins was special. 59-10 doesn’t just happen out of nowhere. “Lamar Jackson can’t throw, he should be a running back” was put to rest early. The Sophomore QB tossed 5 TDS on a perfect passer rating. Rookie WR Marquise Brown dazzled with 4 catches for 147 yards and 2 scores on just 14 snaps! It was an easy test, but the Ravens are for real.

Sammy Watkins

Watkins was the recipient of the first Mahomes TD of the season. He wound up catching two more TDs that game to go along with nearly 200 yards receiving. Tyreek Hill sustained a shoulder injury and is expected to miss some time. Watkins is a borderline  WR1 until the return of Hill.

Dalvin Cook

Cook proved most advocates right on Sunday, as the third year back looked terrific in his season debut against the Falcons. Cook diced up the Atlanta defense for 111 yards on the ground and 2 TDs. The Vikings look to have a much better grip on the run game this year, which will only lead to Cook’s success.

DeSean Jackson

In Jackson’s first game back with Philly, he put on a show. Connecting with Carson Wentz on two deep ball TDs, D-Jax ended the day with over 150 receiving yards and 8 grabs on 10 targets. Jackson looked like the #1 WR in the Eagles offense, and although he won’t produce like this every week, it’s a great sign to see success this early. Classify Jackson as a strong WR2 now.

Losers:

The Cleveland Browns

The Browns had a very disappointing home opener to the Tennessee Titans. They let Derrick Henry go wild and didn’t show much resilience after a rough start. Baker Mayfield and the offense struggled mightily, but don’t be too worried if you are a Nick Chubb or Odell Beckham Jr. owner. Tennessee deserves some credit here for their underrated defensive unit. It will be interesting to see how first year HC Freddy Kitchens rallies the troops for next week.

O.J. Howard

After receiving massive hype during the offseason, Howard had a pitiful week 1 performance. He had four receptions for 32 yards and a fumble. He also had a few drops while fellow TE Cameron Brate shined with a touchdown score. Not much time for Howard to regroup with Carolina on TNF. Owners have to feel dicey starting Howard with the great LB core of the Panthers.

Cam Newton

Speaking of the Panthers, Cam Newton finds himself as a week 1 Fantasy loser. The Carolina QB had a tough start to his 2019 campaign as he hurled for 239 yards and an INT. He didn’t account for any TDs and also lost a fumble in their 30-27 loss. Known for his ability to run, Cam had -2 rushing yards on only three attempts as well. Newton is a very risky week-to-week start in any fantasy league.

Sony Michel

As the Patriots demolished the Steelers on Sunday Night Football, Michel fantasy owners were losing their minds. If you said the Patriots would beat the Steelers 33-3, I would have guaranteed a good game from Sony Michel. The Patriots offense has always been like this though, as their game plan changes week to week. Don’t be too concerned about Michel, as the Patriots know how valuable the run game is for Tom Brady and their success.

Derrick Rose speaks on his legacy & the Hall of Fame

Derrick Rose speaks on his legacy & the Hall of Fame

Featured

Detroit Pistons guard Derrick Rose sat down with Stephen A. Smith on his radio show “The Stephen A. Smith Show” to discuss his legacy, his new autobiography, & his career so far in the league. Derrick Rose was quoted saying:

“I am a Hall of Famer. Not in everybody’s eyes but to the people that I grew up with. Like I made it. Imagine like being 12 or 13 & everywhere you go people are like putting like their burdens on you like man you’re gonna be the one to make it…I got through it.”

The Chicago born point guard has definitely been through his fair share of ups and downs in his career. He’s underwent 4 knee surgeries after becoming the youngest league MVP at 22 years old. Derrick Rose speaks on his fans that have stuck with him through all of his challenges:

“I have a huge fan base. Everywhere I go I have people that relate to me or just get a feeling or a vibe from me from someway somehow. And I never opened up to anyone like the way that I did (with the documentary). I’m giving you a book so you’ll be able to read it.

Despite many critics writing the veteran guard off, he was still able to average 18.0 points last season on 4.3 assists, which is the highest PPG he’s averaged since his MVP season. The Englewood native also recently received praises from his new head coach Dwane Casey:

“Former MVP. Still has it. Still has jets in his tank….Still can get to where he wants to go”

Hopefully this season can be another career season for the former MVP and he can continue to keep adding on to his legacy.

The Air Jordan 1 ‘Zoom’ Brings Some Shine To Your Life

Featured

The Air Jordan 1 is ever-evolving. The legendary sneaker has been a staple in any sneakerhead’s inventory thanks to its staying power and many renditions.

Once again, the Air Jordan 1 sees an upgrade and it’s what immediately draws your eye. The Air Jordan 1 ‘Zoom’ features Zoom cushioning in the sole for comfort never before seen in the AJ1. What most might see is the eye-popping iridescent colorway that covers the entirety of the shoe. What normally would appear to be a normal “Triple Black” colorway springs to life in the light to reveal a burst of reflective color. The normal Jordan branding on the tongue has been changed to say Zoom Air and there’s a tab on the lateral side upper that reflects the Zoom branding as well. The series of numbers on the heel further cements the futuristic vibe of the shoes.

These are set to bring some shine into your life this December.

SneakerReporter NFL Award Predictions 2019-2020

SneakerReporter NFL Award Predictions 2019-2020

Featured

The 2018 NFL offseason has brought been plenty of change throughout the league. Some for the better, and some most certainly for the worst. As always, there will be teams and players that get slept on and surprise everyone. With that in mind, let’s take a look at who may take the league by charge in 2019 and capture some hardware at the end of the season.

OPOY

Christian McCaffrey is one of the only players in the league whose offense is completely built around him, both in the run and passing games. Carolina invested in its Offensive Line this offseason as they know McCaffrey is the center piece to their success. McCaffrey has the chance to total over 1000 yards rushing and receiving in 2019. If McCaffrey tops the 2000 yard mark, that would surely put him in the discussion of OPOY.

2018 Winner: Patrick Mahomes

2019 Prediction: Christian McCaffrey

DPOY

It’s difficult to not pick Aaron Donald as a repeat winner of this award, but Myles Garrett has the potential to take it in 2019. With an improved defensive line Garrett should see much less double teams. Gregg Williams is finally gone, which should only help in Garrett’s development. For the first time in his career, the Browns will be leading in many of their games, leading to many more sack opportunities. Could he get to 20.0 sacks this season? We surely believe so.

2018 Winner: Aaron Donald

2019 Prediction: Myles Garrett

Comeback Player of the Year

Earl Thomas’s departure from Seattle was all but pleasant, but his new home in Baltimore should suit his style of play just as well. As perhaps the best player in the best secondary in the league, Thomas is an easy front-runner for this award heading into 2019.

2018 Winner: Andrew Luck

2019 Prediction: Earl Thomas

OROY

Even with Tarik Cohen in a split backfield, David Montgomery has a special opportunity. As the lead RB in a very run-heavy offense, Montgomery will get his chance to shine. Montgomery also has skills in the receiving game, which will be maximized by coach Matt Nagy. He won’t have the volume of Saquon Barkley last year, but three out of the last four OROY winners have been RBs. With his combination of talent and opportunity, Montgomery is the best bet outside Kyler Murray, who won’t win enough games to claim the award.

2018 Winner: Saquon Barkley

2019 Prediction: David Montgomery

DROY

In a relatively thin year for defensive prospects, Allen has an amazing opportunity to play a huge role in the Jacksonville defense. Although the Jags defensive unit declined in 2018, they still have plenty of talent, which should put the rookie Lineman in tremendous positions to succeed.

2018 Winner: Darius Leonard

2019 Prediction: Josh Allen

Coach of the Year

After a huge offseason in Cleveland, new signal caller Freddy Kitchens inherited quite the array of talent on both sides of the ball. Coach of the Year is usually an award based on narrative. If Kitchens can turn Cleveland around and win the division, he has a great chance to grab the hardware.

2018 Winner: Matt Nagy

2019 Prediction: Freddie Kitchens

MVP

The MVP award has recently been dominated by QBs in high passing offenses. It also usually goes to a QB whose team has captured a first round bye. By these standards, there are only so many options. Although Mahomes may not throw for 50 TDs again, he is going to lead a top three offense to one of the best records in the AFC.

2018 Winner: Patrick Mahomes

2019 Prediction: Patrick Mahomes
