Ariana Grande surprises fans late Thursday night not only with the release of her new single “Boyfriend,” featuring Social House but a video as well. The singer-songwriter had been teasing the release with clips and stills from its official video on Instagram, as well as a few song lyrics.
Social House—made up of Michael “Mikey” Foster and Charles “Scootie” Anderson— have a great relationship with Grande, the duo opened for her on the Sweetener World Tour and previously worked with her on a number of big hits, including “Thank U, Next,” “7 Rings,” “Goodnight N Go,” and “Monopoly” featuring Victoria Monét. This was a collaboration they say was “organic.”
“We were all sitting together, just talking about what was going on in life, and how everybody felt. And Ari gave us the direction and told us how she wanted to do things, and what [song ideas] she wanted to do,” Scootie told Songwriter Universe. “At the time, me and Mikey went over to the production room and started making ideas. We put together some chords and stuff, and then we played it for Ari, and she was like, ‘Yes’ (laughs). And we all went to work writing it.”
Grande who is no stranger to working releasing two albums in less than a year, a sold-out world tour, two non-album related singles. And now, another single that’s well on it’s way to the top of the charts. As we all know Grande is not shy to let fans into her personal through her music, with lyrics like “I’m a motherf–kin’ train wreck / I don’t wanna be too much / But I don’t wanna miss your touch,” The new single called “Boyfriend” could have fans speculating that there a new man in her life that she wants to be her boyfriend.
This past week at Lollapalooza Grande performed the new single live for the first time, she also announced her return to the small screens earlier last week as a guest star on the season two of Jim Carrey’s Kidding show. She also made a brief cameo in the Showtime series’ recently released trailer.
