Carlos Correa Shocks MLB by Changing Mind to Sign with the Mets

Carlos Correa Shocks MLB by Changing Mind to Sign with the Mets

Featured

Willie Mays. Barry Bonds. Buster Posey. And after agreeing to terms last week with the San Francisco Giants on a historic 13-year, $350 million contract, Carlos Correa. The former Astro and Twin was set to join these superstars as all-time Giants when his career is finished if he continued to play at his elite caliber. This would have been the longest deal for an infielder in free agent history.

However, six days later, Correa will no longer be wearing orange and black in the Bay Area, but will be sporting orange and blue in Queens as he shocked the baseball community by signing a 12-year, $315 contract with the New York Mets late Tuesday evening.

Correa and the Giants had a new conference planned yesterday to announce the deal during the day Tuesday, but it was postponed due to an undisclosed medical concerned that arose during his physical. Even though there was the slight issue, people throughout the industry still believed the deal would be finalized and Correa would be playing for the Giants in 2023 and years to come.

The Mets were aggressively pursing Correa most of free agency before he decided to head to San Francisco. If his deal is finalized, since it is pending the completion of a physical, Correa will join his good friend and fellow Puerto Rican, Francisco Lindor in the infield. Lindor signed a 10-year. $341 million extension in April 2021. He will remain at shortstop and Correa will move to third base.

The main person to thank for this deal is Mets’ owner Steve Cohen. He has committed more than $800 million to free agents this offseason, such as Brandon Nimmo, Edwin Diaz, Justin Verlander, and others. As of now, the Mets competitive balance payroll is in the neighborhood of $380 million, which is way over the fourth and final threshold of the luxury tax, meaning the Mets’ tax bill will be around $100 million next year.

Correa is a two-time All-Star, one-time Gold Glove Award winner and won a World Series in 2017 with the Houston Astros. He has battled injuries to his thumb, back and ribs from 2017 to 2019. During this three-year stretch, he only averaged 98 games per season, but was still dominant when he was on the field.

Correa was a free agent last offseason and could not find a suitor for a long-term deal. After he was unable to do so, he made big waves in baseball by signing a three-year, $105.3 million contract with the Twins, which included multiple opt-outs, including the one that he exercised to become a 2022 free agent.

Now Correa will join the New York Mets, who are pursuing a championship once again after losing in the first round of the Wild Card in 2021. The Mets won 101 games last year and the Correa signing definitely makes them one of the favorites to win, not just he National League pennant but, the World Series.

Primetime Preview: Los Angeles Rams Vs Green Bay Packers (MNF Week 15)

Primetime Preview: Los Angeles Rams Vs Green Bay Packers (MNF Week 15)

Los Angeles Rams Vs Green Bay Packers

The (4-9) Los Angeles Rams will be heading to Lambeau Field to take on the (5-8) Green Bay Packers on Monday night football.

Last time the Rams played it was a hectic game against the Los Vegas Raiders in which they came back and won 17-16 which was led by Baker Mayfield who was signed only 2 days before their Thursday night matchup. Mayfield had just a little bit of more time to learn the Rams playbook and develop chemistry but with teammates  Cooper Kupp and Allen Robinson II on injured reserve he is limited on offensive weapons. The Rams defense will probably be without star Defensive Tackle Aaron Donald so they’ll need all hands on deck against the Packers.

The Packers are fresh off a bye week and Aaron Rodgers has been banged up recently due to injuries and hits he’s taken but with extra rest from the bye week Rodgers looks to torch the Rams defense. Before the bye week the Packers beat the Bears 28-19, in a game where things started to click on offense. Christian Watson has turned into Rodgers favorite target recently as he’s been producing yards after catch and touchdowns. If the passing game does not work for the Packers then they’ll look to running backs Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon to carry the workload as they’ve been a dual threat.

Both Teams fighting for a playoff spot on Monday night could finish off week 15 in dramatic fashion, if either team loses their season is essentially over.

Score Prediction: Packers Win (28-24)

Anthony Edwards 37 Points Propel Minnesota To Victory Over Bulls (150-126)

Anthony Edwards 37 Points Propel Minnesota To Victory Over Bulls (150-126)

Featured

The Timberwolves came into this game 14-15 looking for a win to get back .500 on the year. They did just that but they were going to be playing without Town/Gobert. The good news is the fact they got D’Angelo Russell back in the lineup after missing the last game. This was one of those games that started out very fast-paced and Naz Reid took advantage of it as he scored a quick 10 points in 4 minutes before getting injured. Naz Reid left the game with (Trapezius Tightness) but was on pace for a huge night. In his absence, it was D’Angelo Russell who stepped right in and took over the scoring as he was hitting everything.

You knew it was Russell’s night when he hit a buzzer-beater from the logo and then just smiles. As of late D’Angelo Russell has been putting up points and it looked as though he didn’t get hurt at all. Russell finished with 28 points, 8 assists, and 2 rebounds while making it look easy. The Bulls were trying to slow him down but they just couldn’t as he was hitting inside stepbacks and 3-pointers. The Bulls put Coby White and Alex Caruso on DLO but he still was hitting tough shots.

With all of that happening it was Anthony Edwards who was the star of the game as he finished with 37 points and put this Timberwolves team on his back in that 2nd half. Anthony Edwards was getting to the basket against the Bull’s defenders with strength and confidence. When Edwards attacks the rim like that it gets his overall game going and he showed out tonight. Anthony Edwards hit a buzzer-beater as well that had the crowd going nuts at the end of the period.

Over the last couple of weeks, Anthony Edwards has been able to use his defense to create offense and he’s been on another level. One thing that gets overlooked with Anthony Edwards in his development has been his playmaking ability as he was able to get 11 assists as well against Chicago. Edwards has been the ultimate teammate and he’s been able to find his guys right in their spots. It was one of those games where the Timberwolves just couldn’t miss as they finished with 150 points which is the highest point total in Timberwolves team history.

The Bulls stars LaVine/DeRozan finished with a combined 51 points tonight but they needed a lot more. The Bulls were struggling to defend tonight and they were saying that they got embarrassed out there tonight. The Bulls were able to hang in there during the 1st half but in the 2nd half, they lost control of the game.

The Timberwolves will look to continue rolling as they will be facing the Dallas Mavericks as Luka comes into this game questionable.
