SneakerReporter Top 5 Picks From Night One Of The 2022 NFL Draft

SneakerReporter Top 5 Picks From Night One Of The 2022 NFL Draft

Featured

The first night of the 2022 NFL Draft was an entertaining round from picks made to unexpected trades. Much to talk about from round 1 but let’s review 5 of the top picks from day one. Guys that look to make an immediate impact on their new teams and one pick that stood out the most in my eye.

Jacksonville Jaguars #1 / Travon Walker

Let’s start with Travon Walker out of the University of Georgia going No. 1 to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Walker was a surprise pick at No. 1 when most expected for Jaguars to select Hutchinson from Michigan. But the pick has been made so let’s go over what Walker brings to the Jaguars defense.

Walker is an Edge Defender with speed running a 4.51 40 time at the combine. Definitely brings size to the Jags d-line standing at 6’5″ 272lbs. Combination of bulk, height, length, and speed that Walker brings to this Jags defense. Great pass rusher that can lineup anywhere on the line and also drop back into coverage.

Jaguars taking Walker at No. 1 in hopes that it will boost their sack numbers from the previous season when they ranked 27th in the league with 32 sacks. Travon is a day 1 starter and lined up with Josh Allen the team’s most feared edge rusher Travon could contribute from the jump. Potentially a double-digit sack player from any spot on the d-line. A duo to keep an eye on in the AFC South.

Houston Texans #3 / Derek Stingley Jr.

Houston Texans who still have many questions on the offensive side of the ball went defense and selected CB Derek Stingley Jr. at No. 3. Texans taking Derek’s look to improve their secondary which has not been the great past couple of seasons. Stingley Jr. brings plenty to the table to help improve the Texan’s secondary and be a true CB1.

Stingley has great size at CB at 6’0″ and 190lbs and is a physical press corner. Has the ability to locate the football as he runs with the receiver using his great speed and hip movement. The only downfall to Stingley is his tackling. Tends to get stuck on blocks and takes wrong angles that leading to missed tackles. Once in Texans camp, I’m sure it will be the main part of his game to improve before the start of the season.

Overall Stingley is a great pick for the Texans who need improvement in so many areas. Day 1 starter with lockdown capabilities and elite speed. Once was the best cornerback in college and now looking to be the bright future for this Texans defense who are in desperate need of finding their guy at CB. The past hasn’t been good to the Texans with their previous CB selections in the draft and looks to change their luck with their pick of Derek Stingley Jr.

New York Giants #5 / Kayvon Thibodeaux

Giants go defense with their first of two draft picks in the top 10 this 2022 NFL Draft. Selecting Kayvon Thibodeaux out of Oregon University who is 6’4′ 254lbs. Ranking number 7 in the overall ranking for this year’s draft board. Giants look to improve their defensive line by adding Thibodeaux to play alongside last year’s pick Azeez Ojulari.

Thibodeaux brings an explosive first step that can blow past an offensive lineman or right into their pads to knock them off their line with his strength. Quick hands that keep offensive linemen unable to latch on to him. Effective moves that help him get past the lineman and pursue the ball as a run defender. Great tackler with the burst to shut down plays with chase down tackles.

With his speed on the edge and all his traits, he is a great fit for the Giant’s defense. Huge threat on the outside linebacker/defensive end spot making him a complete pass rusher the Giants need. Day 1 starter and will contribute from the jump and could end the season with double-digit sacks and be in running for defensive rookie of the year.

New York Giants # 7 / Evan Neal

With the need to improve the offensive line to open up the lanes for Saquan Barkley the Giants selected Evan Neal from the University of Alabama with the 7th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Neal is an offensive lineman who is 6’8″ and 337lbs. Giants had a hole to fill at RT after a late injury to last year’s starter Matthew Peart and losing Nate Solder to free agency. Evan Neal seems to be the man for the job.

Size and strength that could push back defenders once he latches on to them. Neal has a great first step for his size and moves around very well as a zone blocker as well into the second level. A wide frame that can give any defensive player trouble to get around despite not having the elite quickness. Neal is capable of playing both tackle positions which he played right in 2020 and left tackle last year at Alabama.

Evan Neal is a day 1 starter who can help improve the rush offense that ranked 24th in the league. If Neal quickly develops his skill set he can be an effective edge protector for Daniel Jones.

Pittsburgh Steelers # 20 / Kenny Pickett

This pick stood out because Pickett was the only QB taken in the first round of the draft. Kenny Pickett from Pittsburgh University staying in Pittsburgh after being selected at No. 20 by the Steelers. Steelers are in need of a new QB after the retirement of Ben Roethlisberger. Those are some big shoes to fill and many feel Pickett may not be that guy but the Steelers see something in him most don’t take him in 1st round.

Kenny Pickett has some speed when needs to run and is accurate with his throws. Great ability to buy time with good touch and timing on the long ball. Pickett is capable of getting you a first down if he has to tuck the ball and scramble. One thing that seems to stand out the most is that Pickett has smaller hands than your average QB. Something that scouts believe could be a factor in how he performs but we would just have to wait and see.

Pickett isn’t the Steelers starter on day 1 but could compete for it. Going up against a veteran in Mitchell Trubisky for the starter position. Pickett is the most NFL-ready quarterback in this year’s draft. I project he goes into the preseason and wins the starting job.

Norman Powell, Montrezl Harrell, Lance Stephenson (SneakerReporter Top 10PEs Series)

Norman Powell, Montrezl Harrell, Lance Stephenson (SneakerReporter Top 10PEs Series)

Featured

This has been an interesting season for all three of these players Norman Powell, Montrezl Harrell, and Lance Stephenson. One thing they all have in common is that they have been grinding their whole NBA journeys. Another thing that all three have in common is the AND-1 Basketball “Attack 2.0” they graced on the court in the 2021-2022 season.

The AND-1 “Attack 2.0” designer Ryan Holler showcased his work as this is easily the best AND-1 Basketball sneaker in recent memory. The Attack 2.0 has been cooked up with some amazing colorways that were worn by Powell, Harrell, and Stephenson.

Norman Powell has been the face of the AND-1 Basketball all of the 2021-2022 season in the NBA. He signed with AND-1 last year and has been rocking the AND-1 “Attack 2.0” in some dope colorways. It didn’t matter if Powell was on the Trail Blazers or his new team the Los Angeles Clippers he had PEs for the occasion. On the season Norman Powell averaged 21.4 PPG, 2.8 REB, and 2.8 AST.

It was clear that after his trade from Portland to LA that Powell was in a comfortable role. With Paul George and Kawhi Leonard down throughout the majority of the season Powell was able to showcase his scoring ability in a big market. Powell had one of his best seasons in the NBA and he made sure that AND-1 hooked him up with some dope Attack 2.0 PEs in the process.

Montrezl Harrell has been a true sneakerhead as he’s been able to rock whatever he wants on the court. He’s in a great situation where sneaker companies send him products to try and get him on their brands. One of those brands that have been trying to pry Harrell away from the other companies is AND-1. Montrezl has some of the best AND-1 “Attack 2.0” samples that have been made ever.

This season he wore the Attack 2.0 only 1 time this season. In the past, he wore it multiple times in a season including the Attack 2.0 Christmas, Ghost Busters, and Army PEs which can be seen below. On the season Montrezl Harrell averaged 14.1 PPG,6.7 REB, and 2.1 AST. In the one game he rocked the Attack 2.0 against Toronto he scored 15 PTS & 10 REB. Montrezl has always been a dawg and he showcased that when he was traded to Charlotte from Washington.

Lance Stephenson is one of the all-time faces of AND-1 Basketball. This season he rocked some dope AND-1 silhouettes and wore two pairs of the AND-1 “Attack 2.0” PEs. Lance had a crazy year where he went from signing a 10-day with the Hawks. Then signed for the rest of the season with his beloved Pacers. On the season with Indiana Lance averaged 9.3 PTS, 2.8 REB, and 3.9 AST.

Stephenson has made his impact on the Pacers organization and the AND-1 Basketball brand throughout his career. All season Lance showed that he still has what it takes to play at a high level and stepped in big time when the Pacers suffered from injuries. Check out some of his highlights from the 2021-2022 season with the Indiana Pacers.

Giannis Antetokounmpo, Milwaukee Bucks (SneakerReporter Top 10 PEs Series)

Giannis Antetokounmpo, Milwaukee Bucks (SneakerReporter Top 10 PEs Series)

Featured

Giannis Antetokounmpo is one of the most dominant players we have seen since Shaquille O’Neal. It doesn’t matter who is guarding him when he’s in a zone because “The Greek Freak” is going through them. It’s rare that we see a player of his build with so much pure strength that can bully his way around in the paint.

It’s safe to say that Giannis has been able to stand out with his style of play in a league that’s now known for shooting. The Greek Freak is playing with house money now as he’s been the NBA league MVP and he’s won an NBA Championship. The only pressure that can come his way now is from himself because he proved that you can win in a small market and grind it out.

During the 2021-2022 season, Giannis Antetokoumpo put up more monster numbers again as he’s been announced as an MVP finalist. On the season Giannis averaged 29.9 PPG, 11.6 REB, and 5.8 AST per game in 67 games. It seems like every year Giannis just continues to strive for greatness and approach his offseasons trying to get better.

One thing that Giannis improved on was his shooting ability. In the past teams tried to back up to let him shoot but his work ethic/gym hours put a stop to that this season. Giannis has hit the jumper at a consistent rate and he’s been making teams pay for it.

This season Giannis has been rocking all of his Nike Zoom Freak silhouettes on the court. One night you can see Giannis in the Nike Zoom Freak 1 and then the next in the Nike Zoom Freak 2 or 3. Nike has laced Giannis up with some of the best PEs that he has seen this season.

A lot of players in the NBA are wearing the Nike Zoom Freak 3 and that’s a credit to the great job Nike did with this shoe. Nike and Giannis have dropped one of the dopest collaborations ever with UNO. Check the Nike x UNO collection below as Giannis wanted Nike to make something featuring his favorite game.

2021-2022 NBA Postseason: Predictions and Picks For the First Round of the Eastern Conference Playoffs

2021-2022 NBA Postseason: Predictions and Picks For the First Round of the Eastern Conference Playoffs

Featured

‘ The Atlanta Hawks officially punched their ticket alongside the Brooklyn Nets following the third-annual NBA Play-In Tournament, and now the stage is set for 2021-2022 NBA Playoffs. The first set of games are only hours away, with the Jazz and Mavericks tipping off at 10:00 a.m. on ESPN.

____________________________________

82 games have come and gone seemingly in a flash, with 16 teams still standing only one thing is for certain: NBA fans worldwide will be heavily invested in the emotional rollercoaster that is the NBA Postseason.

For the Eastern Conference, eight teams are officially in contention for their respective conference and ultimately the NBA Championship with the Atlanta Hawks having claimed the eighth seed in a spectacular win against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

With all that being said, we’ll now get into each series, weighing in potential win conditions as well as our own predictions on how the respective series’ will play out.

___________________________________

No. 1 Miami Heat  (53-29) vs. No. 8 Atlanta Hawks (43-39)

Despite being the first seed this year with some solid momentum going into this series, the Miami Heat have their work cut out for them seeing the Atlanta Hawks in the first round considering that last year’s Playoffs saw the Heat making a first round exit while the Hawks making it as far as the Eastern Conference Championship. Of course things are very much different this time around, having roster changes on both sides, but this series feels more equal than most may think. We can expect the Hawks to go into this with a similar scrappy, team based approach as to last year, as well as many outstanding performance from the likes of Trae Young, and it’s up to the Miami defense to make life as difficult as possible for him. On Miami’s side, we can expect Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo to give it their all every second they’re on the floor, but a big X-Factor for the Heat is in none other than Tyler Herro. Herro has become a household name in Miami, providing a good amount of offense for the team, which can hopefully translate into the postseason.

Prediction: Miami beats Hawks 4-2

No. 2 Boston Celtics (51-31) vs. No. 7 Brooklyn Nets (44-38)

In an interesting role reversal of last year’s matchup, the Brooklyn Nets find themselves facing off once again against the Boston Celtics, but this time as the seventh seed to Boston’s second, when a year before these teams were in eachothers’ position. Unlike the previous match-up however, this series feels much more even than before. After what was a rocky start to the season, the Celtics have seemingly pieced things together at the right time, allotting themselves solid positioning in this year’s Playoffs, with their young core in Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Marcus Smart leading the way. Unfortunately for the Celtics, however, is the loss of Robert Williams III, who recently underwent surgery for a meniscus injury, who will be out 4-6 weeks, and is set to return in an indefinite amount of time, which is a detriment for Boston considering that Williams has been the epitome of a defensive anchor for this team all season. This doesn’t by any stretch of the imagination mean that the Celtics are doomed, but only means that the rest of the roster need to be prepared to play on both sides of the ball against a Nets team that can be very dangerous if you let them get into a groove. With Tatum having an exceptional season that garnered some MVP conversation, we can expect an amazing series with him going up against Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. Although the Nets had some inconsistency throughout the regular season, that doesn’t take away the fact that they have two of the best offensive players in the league on one team. And although we can expect a large amount of the scoring load to be on their shoulders, their role players are going to be one of the biggest keys if they plan on getting far into the postseason, let alone the first round. Nevertheless it feels like this series is going to be one that is remembered for quite some time.

Prediction: Boston beats Brooklyn 4-3.

___________________________________

No. 3 Milwaukee Bucks (51-31) vs. No. 6 Chicago Bulls (46-36)

The defending NBA Champions set out on their journey to go back-to-back with their first series against the Chicago Bulls. Giannis Antetokounmpo has shown even more development to his game, shooting the 3-pointer at a sub-40% clip, which has made teams that much more confused on how to guard the 2021 Finals MVP. Additionally, with household Bucks name in Bobby Portis having a spectacular season, as well as the other additions to their roster this season, the Bucks have created a lot of floor spacing for their big 3 to operate freely and get to their spots and make the right play. The Bucks are certainly no strangers to Playoff basketball, and have been playing so all season which is why it’s exciting for them to go up against a Bulls team that haven’t seen the Playoffs in some years now. However, this Bulls roster is comprised of some players that have some Playoff experience and even a handful of NBA Champions, but as a collective are fairly green. Bulls’ Forward Demar DeRozan has had a standout season this year, allotting himself some MVP conversations and hopefully alongside Zach LaVine can make a run in the Playoffs.

Prediction: Milwaukee beats Chicago 4-1.

___________________________________

No. 4 Philadelphia 76ers (51-31) vs. No 5. Toronto Raptors (48-34)

Despite a bit of a turbulent season regarding the whole Ben Simmons situation, the Sixers have managed to put together a solid season up to this point, and now with James Harden in the picture, have high hopes for the team. Joel Embiid has had an MVP caliber season, and is currently in contention in winning the award which to his credit, he has been the very backbone of this organization throughout its hardships. The talent this organization has is up there with some of the best in the league, but can fall very short at times. Although it’s hard to bet against said talent, it’s equally as hard to bet against an under the radar team like the Raptors. Many suspected the Toronto Raptors to be in a rebuild of sorts, now that another piece of their 2019 Championship roster in Kyle Lowry made his exit to the Miami Heat, but they’ve managed just fine, earring the fifth seed. The Raptors have gathered quite a talented roster themselves, many players who seemingly have gone overlooked. Gary Trent Jr. for example seems to have found his stride in Toronto alongside Siakam and VanVleet. Although many may think that this series seems rather one-sided, I personally believe it will not be as easy as one might expect.

Prediction: Philadelphia beats Toronto 4-3.
