SR – NBA Prime Time Preview: Denver Nuggets at Los Angeles Clippers
FeaturedIn what could possibly be the biggest game of the season for the Denver Nuggets, the Nuggets and Clippers will play in the Staples Center for the second time this year, tipping off at 10:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
The battle between the second and third-best teams in the West meet for another time this year and the Nuggets have another opportunity to not only knock off the Clips for a second time but ultimately enter their names in the hat of contentionship-worthy squads as we round the final stretch of the regular season. This high-intensity matchup should take the shape of a playoff atmosphere and will be for all fans who love the wars of the wild Western Conference to enjoy.
It will be interesting to see how the guard and wing rotation from the Nuggets match up against the 6’8 Kawhi Leonard and 6’10 Paul George,as they are undoubtedly the league’s most menacing mismatches. In reality, very few can find ways to stop them from what they do on a nightly basis, that is, if one of them isn’t on the floor that night due to load management or lower extremity ailment, so Denver will have to devise a scheme to at least slow them down. They surely have a chance to do so, now being placed in the top-10 of defensive teams in the NBA according to defensive rating.
But on the other hand, what do the Clippers have to contain Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray, Gary Harris, and the energetic Will Barton? The last time these two teams played each other, the Nuggets were able to secure a 114-104 home victory with a not-so-solid night from Jamal Murray who shot 4-12 from the field in a 19-point night as Patrick Beverley found a way to keep him uninvolved while Harrell and crew failed to keep up with Jokic, who scored a team-high 20 points during the January 12 win.
So what happens tonight when two of the league’s most elite teams square off in the City of Angels? We’ll have to wait and see.
