Russell Westbrook’s Clutch 3 Pointer Leads OKC To Victory Over The Hawks (120-117)

Russell Westbrook’s Clutch 3 Pointer Leads OKC To Victory Over The Hawks (120-117)

The Thunder have been hot as of late and they seem to have find the chemistry that everyone has been waiting for all season. Oklahoma City played the Atlanta Hawks who played without their best player Dennis Schroder tonight because he was out with a left ankle injury. The Atlanta Hawks played like they didn’t need him tonight. The Hawks were able to play smoothly without their very good point guard and make the best of the players that were on the court tonight. It was tough for the Thunder to slowdown Ersan IIyasova and Marco Belinelli as they both were hitting off balance shots and also making shots that were guarded very good. The both of them combined for 49 of the Hawks points and were able to keep the game close for them throughout the game. The Hawks showed a lot of fight tonight as they were down by 16 points and kept clawing back into the game. One of the reasons they were able to get back into the game was the fact that Billy Donovan had his starters on the bench and when they came in it took some time for them to ease back into the game. The Thunder were able to get any shot that they wanted tonight but just didn’t connect on them until the moments that mattered in the game.

Russell Westbrook led the charge for the Thunder as he was able to set the tone from the jump. Westbrook was able to take advantage of the mismatches against Malcolm Delaney & Isaiah Taylor. Westbrook finished the game with 30 points, 15 assists, and 7 rebounds tonight. When Russell plays like that and gets the whole team involved and also can attack at the same time this team is unbeatable. Paul George and Carmelo Anthony added a combined for 41 points on the night. The good thing about this team is the fact that Paul George started off with the hot hand and as the game played itself out the others joined along.

When George is in the zone like he was in the first half no one can guard him. George was able to get to the basket and get layups, shots, and get the team involved. Paul George has shown that he’s a playmaker and can get people the ball in big time moments and clutch moments. Carmelo Anthony went 7-12 from the 3 point line tonight and has been able to find his role on the team as the Atlanta Hawks didn’t know where he was on the court and made them pay. Melo has been able to flourish throughout the season but is now figuring out what the team needs him to be. Melo is going to be that catch and shot player and that’e what OKC needs him to be so that the ball can continue to move like it has the last two games.

Russell Westbrook was able to turn into Russell Clutchbrook as he had the ball with 11.1 seconds left and hit the game winner. Westbrook loves the big moments and embraces putting the team on his back. Everyone else looks at Westbrook as the leader and he responded by making sure they were able to get the win through all the ups and downs tonight.

The Thunder will head to Utah as they will be playing the Jazz again for the second time this week. The Thunder will need to continue this stretch of games where their chemistry has looked unbreakable.

The OKC Thunder Steam Roll Utah (107-79) Westbrook, Anthony, George Combined For 60 Points

The OKC Thunder Steam Roll Utah (107-79) Westbrook, Anthony, George Combined For 60 Points

Featured

The Thunder came into this game winning the last 7 of 9 games this month. With OKC in a groove during this month they were able to get Steven Adams back from his concussion absence. Right away the Thunder wanted to set the tone in this game as Russell Westbrook went 6-6 from the field with 14 points in the 1st quarter. Westbrook set the tone for the whole team and the whole game as the Thunder flourished on both ends of the floor. The Utah Jazz played without Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert but the way OKC was clicking tonight as a whole it didn’t matter who you put in front of them. The defense from the Thunder was swarming and when they play like this as a whole holding Utah to 35.6% shooting from the field the skys the limit for this team.

The Thunder have showed that they’re getting their rythym as a full unit and they’re playing with a lot more fun now a days. This team has been clicking and gelling at the right time and it’s working. Each night with the Thunder you don’t know who will be the player that will go off from the Big 3 and tonight it was Westbrook. This team has showed that with defense and sacrifice anything is possible especially with this unit. Paul George and Carmelo Anthony got it going after the half as they both combined for 36 points. Paul George had what would be the play of the night when he crossed up Rodney Hood and finished at the rim on Derrick Favors. Russell Westbrook finished the game with 24 points, 7 assists, and 10 rebounds as the Utah Jazz had no answer for him or the Big 3 tonight. Westbrook showed leadership on both ends of the floor and put OKC in a great position to win from the jump.

The Utah Jazz couldn’t stop the Thunder especially on the fast break and in the paint. Russell Westbrook was pushing the tempo and setting up his teammates all night. The bright spot for the Utah Jazz was that Rodney Hood with his 17 points and Thabo Seolosha got his game going also as he had 12 points tonight. Utah put up a fight and tried to hang in there without two of their star players but it just wasn’t enough. OKC dunked on Utah about 7 times without Rudy Gobert in the lineup and the interior defense was not there at all. Overall it was one of those games that Utah would like to forget as OKC was able to do as they wanted inside and out. The Thunder reserves were able to add 30 points off the bench and helped secure the win. Jerami Grant led the way with 11 points off the bench and was giving it everything he has on both ends of the floor. Grant had at least three dunks in the game that would be in the NBA Dunk Contest and I think its time for the NBA to give him that call. The Thunder team used this game to grow and it showed on the floor as they played together as a group and everyone had a chance to contribute.

The Thunder play the Atlanta Hawks on Friday in Oklahoma City as they want to keep the momentum going and continue to grow as a whole.

Russell Westbrook’s 26 Point 2nd Half Lifts OKC To Victory Over Denver (95-94)

Russell Westbrook’s 26 Point 2nd Half Lifts OKC To Victory Over Denver (95-94)

Featured

The Thunder came into this game against the Denver Nuggets following a loss to the New York Knicks. What a lot of people aren’t talking about is that OKC has won 6 of the last 9 games coming into this contest. This team has been better defensively and they also have been able to grind out wins and thats all that matters. The Nuggets were playing without Kenneth Faried, Emmanuel Mudiay, Paul Milsap who are huge pieces to their puzzle as a team. OKC was without Steven Adams for the 2nd game in a row and Dakari Johnson came right in and filled a very important role early in the game. The Thunder made it a priority to get into the paint and they finished with 48 points and basically got to the basket any time they wanted too. Paul George and Carmelo Anthony weren’t able to get their shots to fall tonight as both combined for (5-19) on the night for 12 points. Both were in and out of the game all night because of game flow. It’s extrememly tough to get in the rythm of the game especially when you have someone like Russell Westbrook playing the way he’s been playing for them lately. Paul George and Caremlo Anthony are used to getting a high volume of shots and that hasn’t been the case in OKC as of late but they’re winning games and thats what is important.

Just by watching the Thunder play you can tell it’s going to take some time to adjust because you have to go off the hot hand. Tonight Russell Westbrook had the hot hand and had 38 points on the night and was able to put the Thunder on his back. Russell Westbrook has improved his mid-range jumper and also was playing very aggressive like MVP Russ played last season. The Nuggets didn’t know how to stop or control Russell Westbrook as soon as he got his game going in that second half. The Oklahoma City Thunder only had two players in double figures tonight Russell Westbrook and Alex Abrines which can’t happen when OKC plays against some of the biggest competitors in the league. Tonight was a prime example that OKC has to move the ball a lot more because 13 assists on the night won’t cut it on most nights. When the ball is moving you can get the best shot and OKC showed some glimpes of that tonight against the Nuggets but needed to show more. The Thunder were down by 10 points and it was Russell Westbrook takeover time in Chesapeake Energy Arena as he willed them to the victory attacking until he either got fouled or made the shot.

The young Denver Nuggets showed some signs of growth in this game as they stayed close all night with OKC and even had the lead majority of the night. The Nuggets had 5 players in double figures and they looked like a team that is used to playing with each other especially with the way the ball movement was tonight. Garry Harris was able to keep the Nuggets in the game as he had 17 points to lead the way and had a scary moment in the game where he tried to drive and landed on his head. The impact was heard around the arena as everyone was silent until he got up and continued to play. This showed a lot of toughness and it also showed that the Nuggets weren’t going to backdown tonight against OKC. The Nuggets had a lot of wide open jumpers that they missed and they didn’t execute when it was needed for them to get the victory. The Thunder played lock down defense the last 45 seconds of the game and they were able to force Denver into tough decisions.

The Thunder play Utah on Wednesday and will be looking to continue their winning ways now that they have won 7 of the last 10 games.
